Thread regarding Whole Foods Market Inc. layoffs

Union

It's the only way to stop the bs that is going on right now. Team members being harassed and fired. No one getting 40 hours a week. Take a stand and let's stop this !

Cambridge Dictionary:

strikebreaker - noun [ C ] UK /ˈstraɪkˌbreɪ.kər/ US /ˈstraɪkˌbreɪ.kɚ/ : someone who continues working during a strike or who takes the job of a worker who is involved in a strike. Also referred to as a scab. (Please use your words wisely and in the proper context.) One would not "go to war" without analyzing strengths and weaknesses, training its soldiers or without a plan. If a Union is what WFM employees truly want you must prepare (for I assure you they have) otherwise you will only look a fool and further strengthen their (the corporation's) resolve. EDUCATE yourselves on the pros, cons and challenges. PREPARE yourselves for extreme push back during negotiations. STRATEGIZE on how you will deliver a clear message of your wants and needs and gain the most benefit for the members of your Union. SEEK the knowledge and advice of those who have come before you and done this successfully. Passion although the most important, is only the first step in instituting change.

Shut up scab. Keep putting sociopaths in charge of stores and Yoga instructors.

Be careful what you wish for. Unions were more affective 50-70 years ago when the working man had more power to affect the function of a company. Today approximately 47% of the workforce has a college degree and are fighting not only each other but those currently in the workforce to use it. Big business knows this. That is what we have going against us. Although having high employee turnover is pricey, it's a lot less expensive than 115 FT employees with and average pay of $18/hr and no intention of leaving. Before anyone seriously dives into the Union pool, do your homework. Don't venture into this lightly, I assure you they have already prepared for this scenario because it's not the first time it's come up (yes, it's been tried before). I have no horse in this race, I just want to warn those seriously considering it, as with anything else preparation, education, strategy and dedication brings success. Good Luck!

How then? All this talk. How do we unionize? What is the plan and how do we actually make it happen? What is the first step? Second step?

Collective bargaining on benefits and hours..plain and simple..no more fake benefits votes where the options are already decided in favor of wall street and the earnings reports..we could probably vote to NOT open a few underwhelming, underperforming, cannibal stores and shore up the insurance package..notice how they never tell you the amounts of money spent on the benefits any more..transparency my ass

"Garuntee" huh? I'm no grammar nazi, but damn man you're kinda the reason things will never get better for retail employees, there's always a line of low skilled, uneducated, unqualified workers waiting to take your place.

That's what retail corporations count on and it'll always be that way unfortunately.

And I'm picking on just you right now, but looking through the comments really proves my point.

There is no looking for trouble. It's simple a majority of the store has to vote for it. Check it out online. Everyone is discouraged. Why not get something that can stop the bully tactics and Garuntee full time hours when things get rough.

There's no way it's going to happen. Many ppl that work at wfm desperately need that job and probably can't do any better... why risk throwing that away? You know wfm leadership seriously frowns on unions. Don't go looking for trouble.
