Evanston, Ill. -- South Evanston's Whole Foods Market store on 1111 Chicago Ave. will be closing its doors on or around March 19, according to an internal email sent by regional management to store team members Monday morning. This marks the first permanent store closing in the Texas-based grocery chain's history, reported a current employee who wished to remain anonymous for privacy reasons.

This store was blocks from another Whole Foods. Why are all you dummies surprised. This company s---s and is led by a bunch of losers in the stores and in leadership that don't have any experience.

The first closure in history is inaccurate. WFM has never closed a store that started our as a WFM. They have closed plenty of locations that were acquired in buy outs.

Being an ex TM I am not surprised. The building once was a car dealership then was a bank that closed in 1995 or so. Then it was Wild Oats and I actually did some side work with the site developer. They had files on the building history.

The building that store was in is old and the inside is needs numerous repairs. They cited repair costs, distance to other locations (there is a Whole Foods .5 mile away) and lease expiration as the reasons why they're closing it down. Also i imagine sales are really weak there with it being such a tiny store. they promised all TM positions at other stores for the same rates.

Maybe the first permanent store closure but certainly not the last. I believe that there are more closures 'percolating' at this point in time. Let's see what happens post earnings in February.
