Thread regarding Bank of America layoffs

What's more important regarding your job?

What is more important regarding your particular job or role?

Is it to do the job the best you can the way you see it and to make sure that your customer, client, or end-user is serviced in the best possible way in the interests of the company and project?

Or is it to just make sure you are doing exactly what your manager or boss is asking? So what's important and the impacts of that on the customer, client, end-user, or project are not as important.

This is not an HR posting just a question of a motivated worker looking for answers as to what makes a career of any value.

Repeating this here for relevance here as well:

"Rather than seeking to promote a talented "super-competent" junior employee, Peter suggested that an incompetent manager may set them up to fail or dismiss them because they are likely to "violate the first commandment of hierarchical life with incompetent leadership: the hierarchy must be preserved"

A manager is not a boss.

@MRlLcuD-2ges, if you're not already a manager at BofA, start packing your box and hope you get your package. If you exhibit management material before you're a manager you'll frighten your many bosses, making them feel really insecure and they'll make sure you're on the list for the next layoff series unless they can actually fire you out right which would be a lot easier.

Typical follower. I was born to be a boss. I pave my own ways.

30 years ago, 15 years ago, we were committed to doing the best possible job we could; providing top tier service and products both to customers and our internal clients. Now? Shut up, do what you're told, don't question, don't whine and be thankful you get a paycheck.

@MRlLcuD-dat I have to agree with you. That may be a valid question at a less toxic org but at BAC it's all about ki$$ing your manager's a$$ while trying not to annoy your coworkers too much or they'll sabotage you to save their own skins.

@MRlLcuD-dat, yes for most tasks that is logically the case, but what if it's your project and you're in charge of it although you're not a manager? Your manager then asks you to do something that is not quite relevant to your project but it will impact it negatively in terms of time that you're wasting on what your manger wants that he thinks is relevant but actually is real nonsense. This kind of a gray area, hence the question.

What is this, some kind of survey? We all know that at BOA if you don't do what your mgr want you be suddenly blacklisted, not meeting requirements and start being left out of the loops.

@MRlLcuD-xoc, I'm not young but I'm not old either, also I'm probably just as jaded as you are, if not more so.

a) The Bank Products question was someone else.

b) Yes, the paycheck is more important but to get and of course more importantly, to keep getting it, you'll need to answer the question as correctly as it applies to your situation, which is why I'm asking it as I know how it affects mine.
