Thread regarding Whole Foods Market Inc. layoffs

Brand and nothing else

This is the reality of the mis-management prior to the takeover as well as the financing of the takeover itself. I think there will be a total restructuring involving the elimination of most stores. This will morph into just a brand name food product that is sold primarily on Amazon along with select other retailers in the metros where there is little/no presence. The grocery business is cutthroat and we're losing. I bet Amazon will spin off the operations of the most profitable stores, fire the regions, close the headquarters and run the rest from a desk in Seattle.

Agreed, @On6FwHl-lkx. Whole Foods will become just another brand on Amazon, it's just a matter of time. Why keep this whole infrastructure around if you have your own that is cheaper to maintain, and has just as large reach?

Of course he didn't listen to you. Now with the big brand name food companies choking, the industry is waking up to smaller store formats. BTW stop into the completely redeveloped ALDI sometimes. It will blow you away. It's slightly larger with wider aisles and way more choices especially natural and organic. There's an organic 24-oz seeded bread in there that's always fresh, loaded with whole grains, fiber and seeds, tastes fantastic and costs $3.99. Do the math!

I told a bearded hippie regional president that WFM needed to build smaller neighborhood stores 10 years ago. Leadership's arrogance and stupidity got them here.

Oops, that reply should read: "Much fewer stores"... not tores

I agree. It could work like Wild Oats used to: Much fewer tores, and a range of brand name products sold at other retailers. In this case, the "other retailers" will be Amazon and possibly select other stores in areas where Whole Foods doesn't have locations. Or, why not just go mass market and sell Whole Foods and 365 branded stuff at Publix, Wegman's, Costco, Kroger and exclusively online at Amazon too? The cost of maintaining retail stores is ridiculous and this outfit hasn't exactly been executing brilliantly. Then you could serve the fresh delivery market from nearby state of the art warehouses instead of trying to deal with the logistics of the most expensive cramped real estate.
