WFM hiring 6000 people?

What’s with the hairbrained national hiring day. How are all sores hiring if many missed their labor budgets last period? Sounds like a PR sham...

The comment about national firing day is spot on and true. Is Amazon making a mockery of Mackey? If it was bad in the beginning of 2017 I can tell you it is a company I would consider beneath even Wal Mart's standards now. Take a look at Sprouts and Trader Joe's on this forum and compare the comments and time frame updates to Whole Foods. Then you will see the uproar. No one is safe and it is cutthroat. I don't even think Mackey's job is safe right now. He already sold his company which was a shock. He knows it is not worth keeping that liability on his hands.

Haven't seen any news about it today, but Whole Foods laid off more employees today. Demo Specialists and Concierge team members will be released in January. Seems like the national hiring day was the distract from what they did today.

I left Whole Foods after 5 years. I saw the writing on the wall. Let the most experienced team members go by cutting their hours to part time and replace them with lower cost team members. It’s a shame, actually. Warm used to pride themselves on providing excellent guest service and offer guests knowledge about their products. Now, fewer team members to assist guests and a majority of team members who are simply there to stock shelves.

That averages out to 13 new TMs per store. Who has room for that?

I thought it was just them hiring up for the holiday season. 6000 jobs company wide doesn't sound like any new positions are being created.

No background checks? Sounds like a bad idea in this day and age. Also, wait for people to get hired and then find out that in addition to being on probation as a new hire, that they are on a episode of Black Mirror. They can keep your job if you impress their other team members (get enough likes). All that is needed is a badge one can wear like on Orville where team members and customers alike can up and downvote people. Kum ba yah.

Agree with the post below dispose of the higher paid TM and replace them with cheaper employees. But from what I have seen all the new blood coming in has been less than desirable. So all the knowledgeable people will be gone and the new TM who don't know anything and don't care will be prominent. Probably to weed out the career TM making $18.00 doing simple jobs that an $11.00 an hour TM can do.

Yep. Has to be a way of getting cheaper labor.

It sounds like it's to have tms in line for job cuts. Positions that are being eliminated or replacing high paid tms with cheaper work force. Whole Foods will be run like a conventional market at some point. Small teams ,but experienced tms . It could work so well if done right.
