Thread regarding Whole Foods Market Inc. layoffs

Regional update straight from the horses mouth.

Found out today that there is an emergency meeting tomorrow. They will do to regional what they did to demo and concierge. The new full time status is 36 hours. No more. This is region wide and tms will have no say in this. The release of MSI, GA, SSS and SOME BUYERS will be happening within the next 3 weeks. Dont wait for severance. GET OUT NOW.

Ikr. How messed up is it that Rachel just dipped out quietly? She's known some of us for Years! Cold. So cold. How about solidifying a real plan before rolling it out, for once.

Wh as the a train wreck. Regional and global are long overdue for an evaluation.

SW lost an RVP this week for sure. She took a leave of absence...she will not return.

STLs & ASTLs in SP, have been asked to only work 32 hours a week and to use their PTO for the fifth day....apparently in an attempt to deliver a strong Q1, financially speaking.

Quite frankly the prepared foods department needs to axe some of their supervisors. It's completely unnecessary for my store to have 2 TLs and 5 supervisors. They get all the hours and get priority for RTO, too. Not to mention they are basically useless because all they do is micromanage and scare away the younger associates.

I’ve worked here for about a decade. It’s very rare that I’ve ever been scheduled over 36 hours as a full timer. Maybe during the holidays I’ll get some weeks at 38.

I kind of took the post as a warning that this is the first day of some stuff changing over the course of the next few weeks. I imagine if my hours got cut to 36 I would get a second job. That's what some people have to do these days...whatever it takes.

Just a word of caution folks! Be wary of unnecessary write-ups. This is a easier and quicker way to ‘get-rid’ of you. Document everything , date, time, witnesses and any pertinent info. Just incase you need to file a lawsuit. ‘Fight fire with fire’ This company has turned to be brutal overnight.

Allot of these positions already have been cut down on the NA. There are only two buyers in Grocery, Sss is only a 20 hour a week job, sign making is cut back to one person.MSI is the only one that has never changed in this region. The teams struggle to get pricing done wether it be tags or signs getting rid of SSS and GA would further the problems that all stored already have. I have worked in multiple stores pricing integrity is a huge issue, it will be a cluster if they dissolve those roles. Plus the buyers are the ones that do hang the tags up do they really think the TM are going to do it if the buyers don’t.

The demo conference call is to discuss the transition and new program. They told these poor people they were being let go and that a new global third party program was taking its place, but they never told them any specifics for the new program. The demo specialists have been inundated daily with emails and calls from freaked out vendors who have no information and they have to tell them they don't have any information either. They have been begging global for any information and they have not even heard back regarding their inquiries. The person in charge is Rachel Hewlett and she is completely inept and has made a mess of this. She also has not talked to any of the demo specialists she led and supervised for years. They have not heard from her since the start of the fiscal year and she hasn't spoken a word to them about being laid off. The demo folks are hurt and disgusted by her. The vendors are very unhappy with the company and with a third party vendor. Typical whole foods and jumping straight in without being ready and promoting someone who is completely incapable of leading a new program. Karma is a b--ch and so is Rachel.

Thank John Mackey for losing sight of the big picture and not working WFM like the powerhouse it should have and could have been, similar to Costco and Walmart and thus being forced to sell to the biggest piece of sh-- company ever with the worlds biggest a--hole as CEO, Bezos coming for WFM and we are all f---ed.

Global positions are going to be redefined soon as well. Many of the available Global spots are being closed off from Regional folks. Word is Amazon is wanting to bring outsiders into the company instead of promoting from within. Looks like everyone is in for a change soon.

Dairy Buyer, Grocery, Bulk, Frozen, Whole Body buyer, Cheese Buyer, Beer/wine buyer and finally Coffee Buyer.

Seven buying positions in my small 500k/wk store. Bulk and Frozen are handled by senior tms who are not considered buyers on the books.

No reduced hours yet.

How many "buyers" do stores have in other regions? West coast has only a of couple buyers/store. Doesn't seem like a huge savings there. If they really want to "trim the fat", it seems like the best place to start would be the regional palaces, er, offices

Bring it on....I will bring popcorn to work tomorrow. The changes have been discussed for so freaking long now. Regional was suppose to have already gotten shaken up last summer. The sale put a delay on that action.

The 36 hour cap sounds harsh. Hope that's a bad rumour.

We are not hiring new buyers at my store and we need them so I know something is definitively up.

...It sounds like this is from the Southwest Region. The poster was not discussing regional jobs, but posititions that are still in the stores. However, elsewhere on the board, someone discussed the elimintaion of regional positions--which needs to happen. Just an obersvation: There are too many chiefs and not enough Indians.

Sounds to me like information is limited at best and whoever is "leaking" the information from the SW Regional office (assuming that this is the region) is doing folks at the stores a favor with a heads up. Scare tactic? Maybe. Useful information? Yes.

I know that there is another coference call about Demo & Concierge this week.... my bet is that they are just going to let them all go instead of fulfilling their agreement of guaranteed jobs or severance in January.

The ship is sinking and we all best be ready when she does...

MSI is not a Regional position, it is a Global one. They have already stopped hiring new MSI and are correcting their headcount through attrition.

Next time, check the facts before crying wolf.

This posting sounds like hysterics and scare tactics. How about a more clear and concise message that we can take seriously.

What region are you reporting from? Does this only apply to your region, or company wide? Why would anyone not want to wait for severance? Are you saying that TMs will only be scheduled 36 hours/week, no more than that?

Please explain more fully so we can believe you are a credible source of info

Why would we not wait for severance if it is so soon? Unless you are speaking to those who want to stay with WFM in another roll, three weeks is not enough time to look for a new job and get interviewed & hired elsewhere. At least a severance would allow for a buffer while job searching.
