Thread regarding Whole Foods Market Inc. layoffs

Why did Amazon even buy us?

The produce quality has been terrible since Amazon took over because instead of getting the first picks, we are now selling the 3rd picks. Look at the avocados we sell now... That is how they are lowering prices. Now the avocados WF sells are the same as you get at any other grocery store. The things that used to set us apart, like top quality items, are no longer a priority. Sadly, we are now becoming just another grocery store.

This is what's been confusing me ever since Amazon took over. I assumed we were acquired because of our standing in the food world. Yes, we are more expensive, but we also offer (or offered) better quality for customer's money. That was our draw.

Now that our produce is just the same as in any other supermarket, why would anybody bother to buy anything here? Why buy Whole Foods and turn it into a regular grocery store? It probably would have been cheaper and simpler to buy one of the regular grocery chains, if that's what Amazon wanted.

As I said, can't really figure this one out.

Why? Because John Mackey and his hippy burnout friends didn't know what the f--- they were doing.

I'll say it one more time just to drive it home. WFM's supply chain has-not-changed. For those who have forgotten, WFM was financially acquired only 5-6 months ago. Quality issues that exist now didn't "suddenly" pop up and those who have worked for WFM for more than 6 months know this to be true. That being said, as already stated, 90% of crops aren't grown in a vacuum (greenhouse). Mother nature came on with a vengeance these past 18 months. As @R400EC-1ror said, "...Trolls gotta troll."

Stop the whining or be cast to walley world by the back pack kids. Funny how everyone is afraid of AMAZON. It will be a tough year in Whole Foods and soon Trump will make them pay more for USPS to deliver all those packages. Antitrust will also impact this company in 2018. Keep your head down the mother ship can only assume the transition failure is a result of non conforming Whole Food employees.

I like the lil cheap amazon avocados..the old ones were the 4225 larger size avocados and retailed at 2 for 4$ or something like that ..amazons 2 for 3$ or 4 for 5$ deals were the smaller 4046 avos..customers did notice this fact..i like how amazon has changed produce prices midday with out checkin in stocks or supply chains....so then we run out of the item for days...lol....and the outta stocks this holiday in my region for produce were kinda ridiculous..how do you run out of organic red bell peppers, rosemary, organic zucchini, organic butternut squash on a holiday week?? there were others also..

@R4OOUEC-1iuz - You don't know anything about our produce supply chain or grocery store suppy chains in general and it's obvious...

@R4OOUEC-1jzw - Yes, this sounds more likely.

I don’t think the produce quality has anything to do with Amazon. I do think quality has suffered, but it is more likely due to deman stretching supply, as well as weather events that have hurt specific crops in the past few years.

The poster did not say that Whole Food changed produce suppliers. What was said is that WF is now selling the lesser quality produce instead of the top notch quality.

The produce quality is lesser than that of the neighborhood grocery store. I agree the produce quality is not up to par. I would go to other stores to buy my produce. Maybe it is region wise. Amazon bought Whole foods because whole foods was selling out. The concept is old and dry. Aldi's is a competitor now. That spoke volumes to me.

They picked up all the locations it gives them grocery distribution in many locations. They came in at a time where WF isn’t doing that well so probably WF was there cheapest option.WF is known for high prices which amazon is trying shake that perception off.
