Thread regarding Whole Foods Market Inc. layoffs

Are people being fired instead of laid off?

Is Amazon trying to cull Whole Foods Market's employees through firings instead of layoffs? Saving on money like this?

I'm wondering because we lost two good people in our store since the start of the year to completely stupid things. Both hard workers, both making more than starting pay.

I can't think of a reason except that there was a directive to fire people to avoid paying severances.

There are coworkers that brag about not using a cut glove in my store; meanwhile, I get caught without one twice while helping a customer (my store was short on cut gloves and I didn't have one) and I received two separate write ups for it. Not to mention I was using a serrated knife both times. How many people honestly cut themselves with those kinds of knives?

If they are so hung up on safety, perhaps they should look to other issues; like oven mitts full of holes, the dish area which is like a biological war-zone, or knives that people drop on the floor and forget about.

The straight to final cut glove policy was a favorite go to for our stores team leaders. I documented every time I saw a TL violating this policy as insurance if ever used on me

Yes. I was in management and can confirm. I will leave it at that.

I don’t think you realize how hard it is to fire someone in order to avoid an HR nightmare or having them collect unemployment. There was probably something going on that you didn’t know about. It’s easier to be on the outside looking in but if performance issues have been addressed over and over without change then what could you expect?

This happened to me four years ago. If they didnt like you, bye bye. Terrible managers even then. Worse now!

If you know your going to get fired then i would plan ahead. Have a job lined up, and make sure you leave with a f---ing bang. So they will remember your name. Become a legacy at your soon to be old job. Your likely not gonna come back. Make a page on the intercom and tell everyone to kiss your a--.

Very true! This has been happening before the acquisition. You could be the best of employees but they will find something on you. Either way to force you to leave or fire you for something frivolous.
