Calm before storm?

What do you think?

I've been waiting for the axe to drop for two years. I am done worrying. There is not going to be a massive layoff at the store level since we are operating on skeleton crews for the most part. Will some positions end or change? Of course. But the reality is that at a store level we work relatively low skill jobs in a supermarket. It's not worth worrying about.

Maybe there is NO storm coming.

Maybe WF will evolve, as as all successful businesses must, in order to remain successful. Rather than constantly worry about change, maybe we should embrace it. If the changes are not something that you are willing to accept, then you should be making plans for a career that you would find acceptable. Everything changes and evolves.

It’s always nice to look back and say “remember when”, but if that is all you are doing, it is probably time for a change.

August will be the 1 year mark since Amazon took over. Then the GIG can “expire”. Zappos is also part of Amazon, and they have handled their layoffs in a different way than Amazon has handled theirs. It will be interesting to see how this all plays out.

Why August.

What it means is if you live in a right to work state, then your employer has the right to fire you for no reason and you have the right to work or quit for no reason, WFM doesn't honor that system, they are scared of lawsuit or anything legal that brings the labor board or a lawyer, however Amazon does play that game, they fire people, research Amazon and the turnover rate and see for yourself, so be prepared for a new boss that doesn't give a sh-- about worker rights.

What does this mean....

“Don’t we have until the end of August before Amazon’s “promise” to uphold the Whole Foods Market GIG ends?”

Don’t we have until the end of August before Amazon’s “promise” to uphold the Whole Foods Market GIG ends? In that case don’t hold your breath for a 2015 severance package. That was to lessen the bad PR. I think they will wait us out and anyone left will get a less than attractive package or absorbed into another role. Notice no rehiring for certain positions and stores are running well below the bare minimum to get the job of a “full team” done.

Who walks away from good pay so easily you ask? Anyone with self worth that’s who, It’s well beyond the awful stage as you mentioned. Sounds like you’re really banking on that severance, I really hope you guys get something, but again...who’s left to layoff? As one young lady stated in front of the baffoons who put on that song & dance show in the SW region a few weeks back, we are all barely running on survival mode. To which the SW Pres had his rehearsed, vague reply ready for, in which he stated “my favorite topic”. At the end of the day my WFM Peeps, you all need to decide for yourselves, I reached my breaking point and did.

Anyone who says don't wait for a severance check fails to miss something bigger here. Who walks away from good pay as easily as you suggest? A severance is not an unusual practice.

Make them fire you at least if possible. Sure there are other jobs out there but I'm sticking this one out because I believe WFM has to honor it's contract with me. I do my part...our store is rocking it despite morale being in the dumps. I hate the job....and I know better than to just quit.

Only sharing this to show it's not always black and white. Sometimes you stick it out with what you have. Until of course it gets too awful and then you leave.

Leaving just cause there are other fish in the sea is no way to be either.....

Another "vote" for SW, it is amazing what is being done in the stores from spoiled food being sold to overworking people disquised as crosstraining (see what happens when you work in a non union grocery store) to workers who are clearly under the influence, and loss of profits. Mackey didn't sale it for nothing! Seemed like he was washing his hands. Don't wait for a layoff because they are firing lots of people instead. I won't say why but anyone in the know of employment practices knows why. Follow the money.

Layoffs? Every single team at every single store in the SW Region is running on bare bones staffing right now...TM’s can’t even take time off because there is zero coverage. Stop wishing for a layoff with some sort of severance package, it’s not happening, grow a pair and take a leap of faith .... WFM is not all that and there are tons of employers out there with comparable and/or better pay & benefits.

Yup. Quiet now and waiting for another roll of layoffs. I hope my position comes next. Tired of all the b---s---. Take the SW regional team full of a bunch of f---en idiots.
