if you worked in Morgan Stanley and knew VIPs well, you are able to survive in BAML equities.

on linkedin, search baml equities managing directors. you will see a lot of them are from morgan stanley. though in equities, promotion, compensation and layoff are NOT linked to your relationship with management.
