Thread regarding Whole Foods Market Inc. layoffs

Does your store care about theft?

What is the WFM policy on shoplifters? Our STL does not care whatsoever that customers are constantly ripping the store off, especially in Whole Body. WB makes the store a ton of money, but there are also huge losses from theft. I think they should ditch monthly perishable inventories and do whole body instead. There are usually no cameras and no enforcement. Those tiny makeups are $20+ each. People steal and likely resell them on ebay. WFM does not seem to care about theft compared to other companies, it blows my mind.

It is reported as a loss, for tax purposes. They (management) could care less. Like another poster said, if they don’t care, neither should you.

I get that it bothers you that it's happening and no one is stopping it. But as a 'lowly team member' you have to remember it's not your money. If people above you don't care then just move on. Amazon has plenty of money to cover for these losses.

We busted shoplifters all the time at our store in SW. Prosecuted and banned. Pictures distributed even

I did not stop them because I am am a lowly TM and I am not going to take it upon myself to confront an active shoplifter. Since these people steal repeatedly I brought it to the attention of leadership, assuming they would care that these people are stealing makeup daily. I was told not to worry, and it is not worth it to prosecute shoplifters and that it was figured into the markup. I find it ethically wrong and it bothers me personally.

No job is worth your life to go after a thief for one, especially considering how many shootings have been occurring. If you care so much, why don't YOU stop them? Also, unless the STL or ASTL sees the theft happening themselves, they are not able to stop and question the person. They cannot stop people just because a TM says they saw someone steal something.

Unfortunately a lot of food industry companies are like this. They chase labor over loss. Not sure why. Maybe because its easier to measure? I dunno. I'm no manager.

I’ve heard STLs say, WF is wealthy it’s a good way to spread the wealth around. And, the ever popular, there’s a budget for loss. Stupidity isn’t just at Corporate. It trickles all the way down to store leadership.
