I was one of those who got the dreaded "BE". I could choose to be a victim, blame the system, my manager, the world....(where does it stop?). The fact is I got it, and the moment I feel like a 'victim', I become helpless. I choose to work harder, more efficiently, overtime if needed. I am going down swinging on this one. That way, if it happens, I'll know I gave it my all.

If you have 5+ years of service, why leave before they "walk you to the door?" MAKE THEM PAY! Not sure why all of a sudden this is a huge deal. Mellon has done this type of thing pretty much quarterly to make their budget goals for over 20 years. Trust me, IF you do get cut, life goes on - maybe at BNY Mellon, or maybe elsewhere...all will land on their feet. But MAKE THEM PAY = don't leave without that SUB money!
@XcHolp8-1wbe - I wouldnt be surprised if you got perp walked to the door before the end of the month, but even if they keep you, you wont be getting a bonus or raise with a BE, so its a win-win.
OP, you're wasting your time. I did exactly what you said; I gave everything to not be below at the end of the year. All it earned me was a good verbal review but a BE rating on the paper at year end, followed by a layoff last week.
Focus your energy on the next stage of your life; BNY Mellon does NOT care what you do at this stage. If you were rated BE your time is coming. Prepare for it. I wish I had known my time was coming.

You absolutely do not get rewarded for keeping your head down and working hard. This isn't elementary school where you get smiley faces and stickers from the teacher on your papers, and there are no awards for participation. In today's work world, you have to ask for what you want and work to achieve the things that matter,
At BNYM it is clear that the only thing that matters is if you are in Charlie's inner circle of cronies, or are a pet to one of the cronies. Sadly, brown-nosing has much more value than hard work these days.
So if I got BE, can I expect to be let go Tuesday?

Your message was not inspirational in the least. They don’t care and no one else does.
If you get a BE, don't kill yourself working, do less, make your manager work and work, and show their unprofessionalism with their mouth. What's the worse they could do to you? Fire you? They are going to fire you anyway. Once you get BE, you are on the list for liquidation.

Put all that energy into finding another job while you still have a job. You are more attractive to potential employers if you still have that protective aura of currently being gainfully employed. That added aura of awesomeness goes away the very minute you’re terminated.
Burning yourself out to give them lots of free extra work, to try to prevent what they’re already going to do anyways, is merely burning yourself out. I know, because I’ve tried doing it at other jobs. Doesn’t work.
Think of it this way: you are trying to raise your performance to make happy the people who are happily FALSIFYING performance reviews at this very moment to get people out of the company.
honestly, if that makes you feel better, good for you and I wish you luck....... but from what I have heard - from reliable sources..... you are a number and if your number is called, you are done. if Charlie could, he would cut everyone but himself.
Going down swinging would be looking for a new job, fighting this imbecile, contacting news outlets, etc..... working overtime hoping your noticed - I don't see it....
