Thread regarding Honeywell International Inc. layoffs

Suggestions to get fired.....

After 28 years good years and the last 10 years totally $ucking, I'm done taking this c-ap! I'm ready to retire, and I'd like to retire with 6 months severance. I have heard that no matter how you get fired, you get severance if you sign the "will not file a lawsuit" paper. Any suggestions how to get easily fired, short of cussing out my manager? I'd rather not go out in flames, just quietly disappear.

I got fired for being talented and professional.
I was outright told that I lost my job for not following Honeywell politics.

"Do not worry about what HR will tell future employers"

WRONG!

Many recruiters will ask the former employer if you are eligible for re-hire in the company. If your former employer say you are not eligible, guess what your chances of getting a new job at different companies are?

You can remote work again. Just need to come into site once a week. HR doesn't even need the formal agreement anymore. People are doing it still, and even were doing it last year. They're probably not even making timesheets as telecommute. That way no one knows unless they happen to review remote connection. But no suspicion, not opens that door at all.

Why would anyone revive a 9 month old post, or even find it to start with?

Fired employees in Phoenix are offered severance if they sign that they won't sue. HI also will provide COBRA for 18 months whether you sign or not. If you don't sign, you have to call One Stop.

If you get fired there is no severance weather it is with or without cause. I got fired without cause and got Zippo. 32 years of service with no bad reviews or even close to a PIP.

You'll get a severance with certain conditions even if fired. I got my 6 mos. 2 years ago when I refused to drive 2 hours to a Honeywell facility after working from home for a year.

I had 37 tests service, no pips or bad reviews.

A person I worked with, about 59, was getting a lot of work dumped on him so he pretty much decided to just pencil whip or just not do it. Really sloppy. Then one day he gets tapped and is walked out. He got 6 months sev pkg. He was set to retire/quit in a few months anyway. Worked out well for him.

If you quit or get fired = zero severance. I had 31 years in Honeywell and volunteered for a layoff, it was denied and I told my boss it doesn't matter because in six months I am retiring anyway. I stuck around for the six months and true to my word I retired.

The severance is capped at 26 weeks max. But if you get fired, YOU GET NOTHING!!

Do not worry about what HR will tell future employers...they will not speak to them at all, much less give an opinion of your hireability. It is all automatic...you log into the Honeywell system as a non-employee and give the system "permission" to give info to a prospective employer (who is named, specifically, in your "permission" request). All the system will do is give your prospective employer the dates of and comfirmation of, your beginning end ending employment dates.

Give up on the fantasy that HR will or will not give a recommendation.

Step 1 -- apply for and accept a Management job. should be easy to find an opening in a week or so.

Step 2 -- tell all employees that they do not need to work mandatory overtime and yield is not something you care about.

Step 3 -- repeat for 4 months.

Step 4 -- sign PIP.

Step 5 -- retire with severance package.

Option 2

Fill out iManage survey with nothing over a 2 rating for your boss.

Blame everything on them making sure it is clear who filled it out using your language in the comments.

Sign PIP

retire with severance package

Most places if you don't show up or call in for a few days that is considering a voluntary quit with no severance or unemployment.

It sounds like your retiring and won't be looking for new employment? If you get fired or PIP'd, a question HR will answer to future employers about youis if you are "rehirable". If you don't care if they say "no", then either get PIP'd and show no improvement or do something to get let go (take a dump on someone's desk that you don't like is a suggestion).

If you care about getting another job, either volunteer to be laid off if possible or go to your boss and let him know your situation and that you would like a little bit of a parachute landing to either retire or land another job. Most bosses will be cool and find a way to get you a severance. My old boss just moved my job to Mexicali and looked like an all star because he made AOP and was ahead of 5 year plan to move a certain number of jobs to lower cost regions. Believe me, they can totally make it happen and are actually encouraged to build that stuff into plans. Only trick is it may take a year or two to build it into the plan and then for you to off load your work. I met my obligations in less than a year but it still took HR about 4 months to finally get my job elimination approved. This is not advertised but it's a well known secret that if you want to get laid off, you can. You just need to plan it and present to your boss as a way to make him or her look good to his/her superiors. If you are willingly training and moving work to cheaper regions, and training your replacement, why wouldn't a company agree to that? They pay those guys so much less than you are probably making.

I got about 4.5 months severance with 5 months healthcare when I was let go. Best of luck!

OOPS. You're right. 38 years total...my poor reading skills this AM, I suppose. Still, 26 weeks MAX severance against 38 years. If you don't know what "fired for cause" means, there is always the internet. I'm always amazed that folks don't know the terms of their own employment.

28 good years +10 lousy years = 38 years total should be 26 weeks. What is "fired for cause"?

"14 weeks severance with 28 years"

No, it would be 26 weeks MAX for 28 years. If you're FIRED, it would be for cause...and that means you get bupkiss. You want to be in a position to to be laid off, as that is the only path to severance.

Working at HI is intolerable anymore. I am working on getting another job. I know ppl who were terminated for refusing to comply with remote work policy. They got severance. Doesn't guarantee it will be offered to you.

Here's an idea ... get out of your chair, say goodbye, and walk out. This probably will not get you the coveted severance most everyone seeks, but at least you can say you took control of you life and just walked out of your job rather than leave it up to the company in Hope's of getting something on your way out.

I cant imagine you are being all that productive if you've already decided to give up and most likely leaving the bulk of the work to your coworkers anyway so you might as well just leave.

Just a thought ...

I would say stop showing up on time and don't do your job but even that won't get you fired here. Call in sick a lot or don't even call in at all. Start off working 3 days a week followed by a week of vacation or two. If you're lucky your boss will take notice and PIP you but even that can take months.
