The only difference is that you are not paid like a contractor at double/triple than a regular full-time employee.

How soon do we get our severance packages? Are there any conditions?

i have been given 17 month transition and I am told that if a full time employee leaves I will be given that position! so transition is not layoff according to me.

For a large layoff employers in CA are required to file a WARN with the state 60 days prior to the layoff. There is nothing listed here under Broadcom or Avago (link below). A large layoff is > 50 employees for a more than 75 person company... — read more

Transition plan is a trick to save money? Most of the people on transition will be leaving earlier than the end date when they find a suitable job and end up loosing both bonus as well as severance.
