Over 65: Dell / Medicare / COBRA

If you are 65 or older, sign up for Medicare (Parts A and B) even if it means paying the income-based surcharge. If you lose your job, Medicare will only begin on the first day of the following month, and it can take time to get supplemental plans in place. COBRA will not cover you once you are eligible for Medicare. If you have an accident or a serious illness during that gap, you could be left without any coverage.

wife got laid off last year, we ended up paying the #gold #cobra price - it was very expensive, cannot recall the amount but it was 1K+ for the three of us (wife/me/kid)

Post layoff insurance options

If laid off. What are our health insurance options?

This sums it up well - tagging it #COBRA

COBRA coverage is expensive, but still cheaper than what it would be if you had to buy your own under ObamaCare (unless you end up in a subsidized situation). I just switched over from COBRA to having to buy regular insurance; my rate is higher and the coverage is lower.

COBRA will include your vision care, which, in the US, covers one pair of glasses per year. It doesn't depend on the date (e.g., it can be less than a year since your last pair), so if you end up with COBRA, get your glasses before COBRA ends. Our vision care is great... take advantage of it.

Medical insurance and COBRA Question

Is #Lowes going to discontinue our medical insurance the same day we are laid off (I am pretty sure I am gone, just my gut feeling)?

Does anyone know many #gold coins #COBRA is going to cost me per month and if I need to insure my whole family?

And does COBRA cover medical insurance only, or vision and dental insurance as well?
