Thread regarding T. Rowe Price Group Inc. layoffs

I should have been gone by now

I made a promise to myself I'd be out of here months ago. I've tried everything but every offer I get pays way less than what I'm currently making. I'd take a cut but not that much.

@1f6 Best of luck to you in your search. I truly hope you land something quickly and that the green grass on the other side is lush and rich.

@1bv At least the newer ones bring "fresh blood" to the mix. At least fresh ideas. There are many here who led this company into this debacle, then rather than fire their as--s they fire rank and file workers. The managers who already failed the firm get to keep their jobs and golden parachutes. I am down to my last few days working here. It has been a roller coaster - a multi phase grief process. I was crushed in the beginning. Now I am hopeful I can find something better in the end, even if in a new industry or field. This place has changed me for the WORSE. The day I never have to be in contact with this cold cruel organization I can begin healing and unwinding the damage done to my psyche. Job market su-ks, but be open to something completely new.

The cancer of this company is that it’s full of managers who don’t have a shred of leadership quality. It’s not the fault of the young or mid-level employees—if anything, they’d hold their own against anyone at our competitors. The problem is that we’ve hired far too many managers and senior staff who overflowed from other companies—people with no skills, no knowledge, no kindness, and no passion whatsoever.

Those who come here to brag how they have made so much money - remember you were paid for being lucky enough to be paid when the company was doing well.

Today your expensive stupid a-s would be on the curb before anyone else

@w3 Next level A-hole comes to a layoff site to brag about how much better their situation is than theirs....perhaps there is a "nolayoff" site where such folks can be deluded all they want about how WONDERFUL they were at T Rowe, giving a little nod to "themselves" for doing stuff so well in life..."Of course I still here while you face job loss! Yeah I didn't kiss a---. I just well and beyond good to earn my keep and nothing can save you from getting chose to Train & Drain. I have never felt so dehumanized after months of having to face my replacements who never had to do any work to get that job. Americans had to prove they were qualified. Now these people are handed nice office jobs and free training courtesy of the people who earned their jobs. Facing an uncertain future while every day having to endure some overseas d-mbfk gets d-mbed down training so they can "succeed" without having to have put all of the work and effort that I did discovering on my own. Crack the shell, take the nut out, discard the broken shell. I stand with the broken shells who had to muster every ounce of strength they could muster to not go crazy during this absurd strategy.

@vf and that’s why you come here to s_hit on hard working colleagues who are struggling to keep their jobs??

Not only do they have to face politics and offshoring but also pay for your incompetence and laziness.

Class act buddy.

It is always the ones who do nothing but play office politics, along with their sycophants, who are busy nitpicking and bullying the hardworking mid-level and junior employees. This kind of behavior destroys the morale of diligent workers more than anything else, and it also severely degrades the overall quality of the company. And yet, the reason there is no serious action being taken to remove such toxic employees is probably because they have already become the majority. Back when the problem was small, they probably could have pointed out those little details. But now that the issue has become so massive and complex, it’s bound to just explode. Ugh, it's scary. I can't help but feel like we're in real danger.

@11a agree on principle. Senior employees might deserve their pay. Nobody’s grudging your situation. But gloating in front of mid level employees who work hard, need the job, and getting laid off is not done.

@w3 that’s why you’re part of the problem. Senior associate coasting on fat salary waiting for retirement while hard working junior coworkers are getting laid off. Aren’t you precious!

@vf My situation and sentiment exactly. It was nice being proud of where I worked for most of my long career here, and truly sad to see what it’s become, but for me it’s retire early or stick around til I can’t stand it and let that nest egg grow, or until they lay me off and top it off with some kind of severance. Neither has happened yet so here I am. l

But that does not make it any less infuriating to see how others are being affected.

@kp I don't need a new job, fellow genius. Years are done, the money is now more than made and they just add to it each and every day. Glorious.

Despite the stock price being this high, the fact that they’re carrying out mass layoffs is disgraceful for a company. This, more than anything, is proof of everything.
They kept up weak management that relied on the high stock price, made disastrous hiring decisions, and ruined countless people’s lives.

@k7 Read their post again. They are trying. The job market su-ks. With all of the jobs in some fields being offshored or H1Bs used instead, some industries are abandoning Americans. You must not have kids hoping for a white collar job one day. YOU try looking for a job genius.

Wages are going down due to H1B/OPT/F1/etc visas importing labor that can be better controlled and paid lower. Plus many of those work visas create tax benefits for companies. FICA and Medicare taxes...maybe more. And then there is the offshore scheme. Tech companies have laid off thousands of people only to request the same number of work visas or build offices in India to staff with Indian workers. A job that T Rowe pays a worker including benefits worth say $220k can be done overseas for around $12,000 with no healthcare/benefits, no FICA, no Medicare taxes. Research on your own. So T Rowe sits in that beautiful building in Baltimore...less taxes will go to the City, State, Feds which will cause all of our taxes to go up to make up for it. They keep saying social security will go bankrupt, yet between people retiring and jobs going to non-Americans, the intake will plummet. And don't look to Gen Z to pay into it - recent college graduates, especially in STEM fields, are having trouble getting jobs because entry level jobs going to foreigners.

They need to fix this so only needed talent is hired...we are doing ourselves no favors allowing greedy businesses (all making profits, record profits in places) from discouraging kids from studying STEM or reducing tax revenue in our communities. There be no middle class.

And Indian hiring managers tend to hire their own. I threw away many years of learning and experience because of corporate greed.
