I know five people who quit in the past two years, two already reapplied. The startup culture was too chaotic and the consulting firm was 80-hour weeks. I'm not saying this place is great, I'm not delusional, but at least I've learned to appreciate the devil I know.

I coasted with bursts of intense work at Cisco for 14 years (started with them later in my career), then retired. Seems like that may still be possible for those who can manage up. I hope it works out for all of you.

@cb I would rather work hard at a company where I am valued. But given that I’m at Cisco, I’ll do my best to do the least.

and to ignore the employee handbook
to help myself at all times
to keep myself physically rested, mentally checked out, and morally flexible
