I see so many job positions open for only 2 days or less than a week. Are those genuine openings. I was told by a friend in HR that those positions are there just for formality. Managers have already made up their mind as to who to promote but they have to post the job for HR purposes. Any insights?

@x3 Damn...the only thing my friends have ever done is buy me a beer
This is true.. and to individuals that are not qualified. I seen someone’s friend move from 12 to 15 pay grade and never interview anyone, just gave the job to them that was posted only 3 days.
@pk Not necessarily. This is also done for internal transfers; I've seen it many times. Can't bring someone to a new team without a job opening, and job openings have to be posted.
Basically, when you see a 2-3 day listing that you weren't tipped off to by the hiring manager or recruiter, don't bother, because it's earmarked for someone. If they interview you, it's a formality wasting your time and everyone else's.
@t6 Unfortunately and sadly, I must agree. This administration started out well in recognizing the greed and CEO wealth and to combat and punish that had lowered the CMS payment rates. But then something happened where the administration caved and raised the CMS payment rates back up.
I am not sure why the administration changed course and relented. My guess is there was either a behind the scenes payout (bribe) or maybe threats of ensuring certain senators and house of reps would not get backed to remain in a majority.
It is really a shame that our government can be bought out my large corporations and the ultra wealthy.
@pk The government isn’t going to help. That was their function in the old days. Now they’re on the side of our corporate overlords.
This is done for favoring H1Bs.
Complain to the dept of labor or ask your friend/ spouse to complain if you are fearing retaliation. USCIS also has an anonymous means of complaining.
Blame state mandates for requiring a job posting. It just delays the process of promoting individuals - very frustrating for everyone involved.
You will also see postings with one obscure preferred qualification. One time it was a software program that I think was created by the hiring manager and shared with the friends he wanted to hire. Then they can fill with an H1B worker who has the preferred qualification they handed them. Because HR wants to pretend they considered other people - you may get interviews and have to tell your current manager you are interviewing but you are just a checking the box interview and have no chance at the job. But you never know so keep applying but don’t take it personally if you don’t get anything.
It’s because they want to promote someone but for whatever reason it’s easier to for a new role than just to promote. So yes it isn’t an actual opening, it’s already earmarked for a specific person. Just another example of how stupid this company is.
It’s True - Friends and Family postings. Very common.
