Thread regarding 3M layoffs

Respect and Trust are earned

Respect and trust are things that are earned, not assumed nor entitled. As such inept managers and above are not respected nor trusted as they have not earned it.

Put another way.... nothing good ever comes in the absence of trust. Without it there's no loyalty, and where there is no loyalty, it never ends well.

The chief science officer position is a joke!

Asking for a friend:
Who is FlilFlam?
Who is fake blondie ?

I recall a legal conference a few years ago where flimflams entire speech was about ‘truth to power’. The hypocrisy is just stunning. Business class trips to London for RD and fake blondie to attend his daughter’s wedding followed by slavish posts of praise on viva. Cringe romantic pics of RD with the court jester of the uk legal team AW. Boondoggles like you won’t imagine. Promotions on the basis of who flimflam likes. And these are just the pg13 activities. Truth to power… What a farce.

@1mm "gets paid a very high salary ..." and travels all over the glove at the company’s expense, frequently using these engagements to promote her personal brand and collect speaker fees.

Is anyone else noticing what is happening inside TEBG?

Over the past year, a noticeable number of new female senior leaders have moved into key roles, while several long-standing senior male leaders in R&D and Sales seem to be disappearing.

With the new women’s leadership (under WB)team coming in from the outside, I honestly believe even more women will be preferred for leadership roles in the near future. Not because everyone is automatically better qualified, but because the current political and organizational momentum clearly seems to point in that direction.

Maybe people do not want to say it out loud, but the pattern is becoming pretty obvious.

Entire 3M leadership team is filled with “mean guys/gals” period…. and it’s clear why. Look at the top and every single one of them only cares about the stock price and about kissing BBs you know what in hopes he keeps them around so they ride the stock rising wave. Not a one of them cares about the real working people or true innovation.

@12r agreed! YF should also be on the list of “mean girls”. She is skillful at back stabbing, great at making you know how smart she is, awesome at gas lighting, and really, really good at kissing FlimFlam’s —-.

The mean girls club is metastasizing. With fake blondie now in tebg, expect a complete collapse in service and quality. And then there’s our data privacy queen who thinks she’s in a permanent instagram world. And let’s not forget the OG gossip girl RD herself. Masterful at stabbing you in the back to make points with our ozempic ridden flimflam.

@t0 You are so right! I have seen one of “the mean girls” in action. Her behavior would not be tolerated in any other company. I heard at least one person put in an ethics complaint naming one of the “mean girls” but nothing happened. Not surprising given who her boss is.

Respect and trust aren’t given because someone has a title. They’re earned through competence, honesty, and results. Right now, 3M is failing that test spectacularly.
Layoffs (“eliminations”) didn’t create lean, efficient teams — they created burned-out skeletons doing the work of three people with no relief in sight. The remaining employees are exhausted, demoralized, and at a breaking point. Workloads exploded, deadlines got tighter, and “do more with less” became the permanent excuse.
Yet the same inept leadership that caused or mishandled these problems still expects loyalty, respect, and discretionary effort. Here’s the truth: you don’t get loyalty when people feel disposable. You don’t get trust when every town hall sounds like corporate gaslighting. And you sure as he-l don’t get respect when managers hide behind buzzwords while their teams drown.
Nothing good comes from this. Burnout isn’t a badge of honor — it’s a leadership failure. Overworked people eventually break, quit, or quietly disengage. The ones who stay out of desperation won’t give you their best; they’ll give you the bare minimum to survive.
If leadership wants real change, stop demanding respect you haven’t earned and start earning it. Fix the workloads. Be transparent about the plan. Cut the bull and actually support the people still carrying the company. Otherwise, don’t be surprised when the best talent walks and the rest check out.
Trust is earned. Right now, it’s being burned faster than your employees can recover. The clock is ticking.

@me Everyone seems to ignore that FlimFlam (the current head of Legal) is responsible for the ear plug fiasco when he was Chief IP Counsel. He was promoted despite his bad judgment and poor leadership skills.

3M Legal also had a part to play in the PFAS fiasco. It is sad 3M ignored its own employees/scientists and continued to produce PFAS until they had no choice but to stop.

Whatever happened to true north, blue skies, green dashboard? It’s like they did a hard stop and pivoted into oblivion.

There is no true north anymore. You set and wait in any job in this shell of what once a great company to work for and wait. Its almost as if we are in the trenches in WW I waiting for the whistle to blow to go over the top for a sla-ghter. I know that in our location that is what we all feel across many roles from top to bottom.

Roman just plain unlucky to be handling both PFAS and earplug lawsuits. Left a bad legacy in his name as the CEO to drag 3M out of the dividend aristocrat.

@c5 sadly, Roman is seeming really good these days. Except in stock price.

That's because 3M hires externally and doesn't promote within. It's why a lot of people leave and no pensions.

Sounds too logical to me. What part of the org do you work in where you aren’t seeing this?

Or maybe a better question is where do we see it in 3M anymore these days. No where that I’m aware of.
