Thread regarding Whole Foods Market Inc. layoffs

Dear powerful shareholders

If any of you are reading this please fire everyone on the regional level and replace them with people you hire. Their incompetence with the day to day needs of the job are what are killing the company. Clean house and let us workers do our job instead of pushing bizarre promotions that in the end hurt sales.

Anyone will be better. They are completely out of touch.

I think the point people are missing is this: if your PERFORMANCE is satisfactory- if you can demonstrate that you can both MANAGE and LEAD as a regional or global or STL, whatever- there's NO NEED for drug testing. What we're seeing is a sad circus of ineptitude, that is is so bad that we're now resorting to calling for drug testing. If these people had their feces together in the first place (or were held accountable and fired when not), we wouldn't be having this conversation.

Drug testing should start in every regional office, then everyone at global, then filter down to the stores. If you're high I don't want to work for you or alongside you.

By not drug testing the company is putting everyone at risk. Drugs mess up your mind and your emotions. Drug testing IS required after serious incidents that result in injuries. Why? Because (DUH) people who are strung out, high or drunk are much more likely to hurt themselves and others. Companies don't drug test because they like spending money. They drug test to cut down on all the crazy sh** associated with drug users. In places where medical pot is legal that's a different situation. But I don't want someone riding around on the forklift or holding my ladder steady (or running the company trying to make decisions) when they're high as a kite on mushrooms, pills, smack or cocaine! There is no excuse for not drug testing and yes, I believe it might possibly snare a number of regional and global a--holes.

I respect Whole Foods because they do not drug test. I don't even use drugs myself, but if a substance someone is taking in there spare time does not affect how they are on the clock, a company does not have the right to go sticking there nose into that information.

Man, listen. If you have so much experience here and with even leadership positions under your belt then you are doing something wrong when applying to other jobs or haven't tailored your resume enough. I've been with the company for 7 years with 4 as a tl and am looking to leave because of the direction this company is headed. I've applied to hotel industry jobs, a medical supply company, administrative positions with my city and county, and an admin position at a warehouse. I got calls back for interviews from all of them. I and to tweak my resume to suit their needs. Yeah the market is bad, but if you supposedly had leadership experience than you have enough to make it in mid to higher level management at other places. Suck it up and be smart about it.

An even better idea would be to remove John Mackey from Whole Foods Market for good. We're being told to evolve and not hold on to the ways of WFM past, so why hold on to this arrogant dinosaur?

His belligerent responses to the press have done nothing but hurt us more. Redundant staffing in the stores is not the main issue, we're barely able to breathe as is. This company needs to be sued by its Team Members for loss of wages and loss of worth of our stocks and options. Sure, the competition in grocery has caught up with us, but let's throw them Mackey and move forward being the excellent retailers we all are without him.

There are literally thousands of examples of regional incomptence (and global, frankly, because they're the ones who have failed to properly organize, staff and manage the regions) but here's one of my favorites: We had a regional marketing nincompoop who had never taught a cooking class, knew nothing about the operations of Salud, had never been a Salud director, but somehow kissed the right @zz and magically was put in charge of overseeing all our regional Salud locations. Her cooking school calendars were full of errors (big errors) in terms of basic grammar and typos, scheduling mistakes, recipes that included ingredients we didn't even CARRY (and couldn't get or had to run all over town looking to find at Asian grocers etc), and her overall attitude was horrible. She was snarky, refused to take calls or answer emails, and was generally a witch to everyone whenever it was ever-so-gently pointed out how much of everyone's time she was wasting. Oh, and she set up a new Salud without enough basics such as knives, uncomfortable chairs, a really weird banquet table that was up to most people's chests making it hard to eat, but all kinds of ridiculous technology they never needed such as closed-circuit TV they never used. This lard brick is yet another incompetent buffoon taking up valuable oxygen. Apparently, as in so many cases, someone high up in regional is playing sugar daddy by giving her a job she is wholly incapable of doing, and the company pays a huge price in lost time, aggravation and wasted resources.

Sorry, @IeeDZgH-qkx, but with many more service hours than you, I can tell you (from personal experience) my quite extensive WFM experience (up to and including many years of leadership) has done absolutely NOTHING for me as far as making me attractive to potential new employers. Other retailers see WFM experience as a detriment (or at least anyone I would consider working for). You might be able to secure a position at a direct competitor based on your WFM knowledge but be assured you will be hired at a much lower rate. I am grateful for the good years I had with WFM, but I ecstatic I got out when I did even though it means I am currently having to redefine my career goals.

We need more Vision Days to review so many Visionless visions! Remember we are good at what we do because of the amazing team members we continue to fire. Good job for speeding up the process of firing all these lost souls.

Arrogance and cronyism at the very top levels ---global, not just regional is a big problem and is the reason WFM failed to remain competitive as a company. They stopped listening to their customers, they stopped listening to their team leaders/team members, they failed to monitor consumer/competitor trends. Now people are losing their jobs because of this high level ineptitude. It's a shame.

PLEASE..bring a vote forward at share holder meeting to enforce mandatory drug testing for everyone. You have NO idea how many problems this would solve.

Almost twelve years of service and I could not agree more.

The amount of incompetent, non working folks has been unbelievable. You can see the ones who complain the most at my store are the ones who refuse to take on more responsibility or even try new work strategies...WFM cannot survive the way it has operated....so we must change.

I honestly do not know if firing Regional folks is the answer.

I think TMs at my store who whine need to have an attitude of gratitude for sure. Why? Because in the real world nothing is ever guaranteed. At anytime anything can and will happen.

Whole Foods never promised retirement...but has always (and still does) reward hard work.

I'm freakin' greatful to have had almost 12 yrs!!! I've paid off my student loans, WFM foot the bill for the birth of my two angels, I've got experience that IS VALUABLE in the grocery field, I've got some real friends that are better than my own family....the list could go on..

Gratitude....
