Thread regarding Bank of America layoffs

Do you feel like you are in a dead end career path at BofA?

Unless you are a subject matter expert in a product or a really good developer versed in the latest tech...this place is a dead end.

I work as a program manager and we claim to do agile but we don't. It's a mixed bag of junk and throwing sheeet on the wall. I have moved around in many parts of the company and it's all the same.

You neither get to learn to be a good project, program or product manager. Look at any job description from Google or Facebook or Netflix or Amazon. You will suddenly feel very unqualified. Imposter syndrome? Maybe! But the harsh reality is this bank will not take you to places let alone have a fulfilling career here.

It has gone from bad to worse on so many levels and poor management decisions.

I have started to learn new things on my own and ready to fly this coop and fast! The longer we stay here the more the odor of bad process, tools, and apathy just sticks to us.

Am I alone in feeling this way? The bank has not made any effort to make this place exciting to work at all. Infact they do the opposite.

I'm truly terrified that I'm here over a decade.

Claim you're bis-xual. Can't be disproven and it gets you diversity promotions.

They lie to you get what they want, so you can lie to them to get what you want.

At most large corporations promotion is a myth. You get better roles and better pay by switching jobs every few years.

Just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in!

Shouldn't have taken this long to find this out, but yeah many of Bank employees are not up to par with current industry standards and skills for their roles. Not just BofA but true for other Banks as well. You're never really going to get a chance to use new technology or learn new skills and apply them until they've been around for a decade or more and the Bank decides to adopt it.

Amen to that!
I am between a rock and a hard place here. Haven't seen a raise in 3 years and on a decline in learning new things. It's such a fragmented company and all you learn is how to navigate the red tape. It's useless knowledge and won't impress anyone outside this pinhole.

Correct, this bank will suck the professional life out of you and kick you out when done.

This is what I feel every day and with every job rejection it sinks in further.
We must not lose hope and just keep trying to keep up with the future, because the Bank does and will not do that. Thus, will not carry us forward in any sense of the word.
