They can track but cannot require salaried employees to be in the office a certain number of hours. They would get demolished in lawsuits.

They already track it. If your required my source page has a dashboard that shows your required time in.
Who cares? Every department is different. Some managers don't care. Others micromanage. The ones who don't care are the ones that have the happiest employees and HR looks the other way. Mind your business and worry about your own work and not what others are doing.
It's like middle school. "It's not fair!" Yeah well - life isn't fair. Find a remote job if it bothers you that much.
Hey y'all, former BNY employee here. Got laid off years ago, I like to check the ol' layoff forum to see how cr-ppy things are. Not surprisingly, it sounds like absolutely nothing has changed since I left!
You WILL be laid off -- or you'll keep absorbing the workload of everyone else who got laid off, and quit -- so you might as well stick it to The Man and do what's good for YOU in the mean time.
When the revolution happens, those corpo freaks will be the first against the wall. So get yours while there's still something left on 'em to eat!
It depends on your director. Ours lets us go home at lunch. My group frequently gets stuck late at a moments notice. That means almost 7 PM daily but we can be stuck on till 8 PM which is very common to even midnight because of internal system issues or external vendors. They find it pointless to be in the office for that. So we leave before afternoon work kicks in and rush hour starts. Also, don’t bring it up. If you are able to leave at lunch and your boss knows and especially if they are doing it too, just keep on keeping on. Don’t be foolish like that woman who brought up badge swipes in an All Hands meeting and then suddenly we were getting tracked heavily. Let the others be jealous. Most of them talk big talk but I bet can walk out at 5 PM no matter what’s going on. I wish I could just drop everything and go at the end of the day. I used to be in a group like that.
@OP LOL - you better hope your manager or HR never looks at your attendance data.
Just do your work and login.
Asking questions like this only indicate you're looking to scam the system.
Do your job right.
They are coming down on it and can tell the difference between laptop on wifi vs mobile. Not just how long but what exact time the laptop switches to mobile.
They already are. They’re tracking how long you are logged into their Wi-Fi network. They just haven’t come down on it yet. Many people who used to go in for half a day are now on the __it list. Many people I know have had to make changes and now just go in for a full day.
When they figure out how to exempt senior leaders on the dashboard - they are the biggest culprits
