It highly depends on what your role is and the function you're in. But I would say what used to make Appian a great company is not there anymore. Appian had a great culture, really skilled competent people, always happy to help each other. However, it is a company hampered by its own leadership.
Starting by the stale C-suite/founders that do not acknowledge it is time to move on, some of them latching to any kind of power/ego trip they can instead of giving way to someone that can take the company to its next phase.
They have also chosen to surround themselves it 'yes people' instead of the ones that kept them grounded. Eventually those people started hiring more of their friends/cronies and getting rid of other competent people that had a good understanding of how things worked in terms of product/sales/engineering and what route to take to address the main issues.
There are still some competent people at Appian - particularly some that are comfortable, in functions with less shenanigans, more stability, or with contracts that prevent them to have to do RTO 5 days a week. Some of them are a bit older and also know for a fact that there are other even worse companies out there. But even some of them start looking around, and some others just became complacent or accepting the new reality/disconnecting from other coworkers.
I would take a pragmatic approach and try to analyse if the company is in an upwards or downwards trajectory.
Sales - an absolute current sh-tshow as you can see from all the threads here, plus a few others that have been deleted. Truly toxic environment where they have made an example of whoever had a contrarian opinion already. Lots of good AEs/SCs are leaving or left already.
CS - Still has business and some stability, but at what cost? After a while it's more of the same and you have no progression. It's no place to be long term if you are relatively ambitious. Leadership used to be better at regional level. I still think our dear friend CCO is not very good and I am surprised at how he has lasted so long.
Engineering - Some really exceptional talent, but more importantly, people that had the know-how and had been there for 17/18y have left. Not 5, not 10. The ones that I recognised as the most competent Product Managers are long gone, and the product is quite stale.
You can parrot all the AI feature cr-p you want, but the product or the company in general do not use AI as much as it should, and eventually customers will realise that. There is a small window where Appian can actually invest strongly in Product and try to catch up, but it's too late and arguably the ones capable to do there are not there anymore. You are left with the Sales fuehrer trying to polish a tu-d while making everyone in his department miserable.
That will only last so long.
