Thread regarding Verizon Communications Inc. layoffs

Don't believe any BS - remember how it worked last time

I can't believe anyone is falling for the "I got notified today!!" bullsh-t. You literally saw a massive layoff in November.

Just a refresher - 15 minute meeting scheduled the morning of by your leader, over around 11, all hands for the survivors. No meeting invite goes out for the all hands, you just get a ping with the link (or at least that's how it went in my department).

Anyone who says they know they're getting laid off as early as today is a liar and nobody with any actual knowledge is going to post it here. You will know Thursday. Period.

@OP some of us have been here a long time, you may have been also... but EVERYONE does not get notified on the Thursday of a pay period... as you step down in bands the notification gets earlier.

Not sure if you got the emails about JR and MH a month or so ago, they did not just decide to "explore new things" that is exec talk for RIF, and that was certainly the first step in this RIF coming Thursday...

If YOU remember the November ones the highest ups got notified almost 3 weeks in advance if they were impacted, and it was not a Thursday. But maybe you were not paying that close attention.

The bulk of the employees, bc the number hit is always higher the the higher band you go (so the grunts like you and me get notified on Thursdays) TYPICALLY, but there are always targeted layoffs that hit whenever they want to hit.

Band 5s getting notified ahead of 6,7,8 tracks with the companies history.

At the end of the day, there is no required process that I am aware of... if I had to guess they layoffs the minions on Thursdays of payweeks so we get paid that night and feel a little better that the execs all have golden parachutes like 3.5 million in stock they can sell the week before they get RIFd... MH...? I dunno

@dc I guess we’ll have to keep explaining this over and over. Which is fine - most normal people shouldn’t have to worry about the WARN law.

While it varies by state, I’ll use NJ as an example. Employees are given 90 days notice. Notified in Thursday, off books in October. Then you’ll see a WARN notice in October.

If you were getting cut Thursday, and off books on Thursday, then there would’ve had to be a WARN posting ahead of time. Counter intuitive, but that’s how it works.

By Law a a company has to file a warrn notice with the state, if there are major layoffs coming, and all I know in the state of georgia, there is no active warn notice for verizon

I guess we will all see in two days as I suspect the OP is correct. The last RIF this place was awash with people saying another 15K was going to get the pink slip... we it turned out to be a few hundred and a lot of them were managers.

@OP I don’t understand posts like this at all. There have been countless examples of layoffs happening with both advance notification and on the spot with no advance notification.

You then say “ I can't believe anyone is falling for the "I got notified today!!" bullsh-t” followed by “ or at least that's how it went in my department”

You have time to read what you type before you hit “send” to post. It amazes me that posts like this exist and is a main reason why this site is a cluster fck.

@OP It is really up to your leaders on when they tell you. It depends on how much they trust you not to broadcast. I am sure all the supervisors already know unless they themselves are on the list.
