Anyone else see the recently posted engineering positions in limerick Ireland? It looks like they are targeting fresh graduates. I have a few problems with this:
Weren’t all international operations sold to BT?
Why Ireland when our network is based in the United States?
These would be good positions for associates looking to move into engineering. Why are they looking outside the company when people inside the company would want these jobs.
@ay much of the supply chain ops is still in the US, and up until the last few weeks the svp was a vz lifer from the US. So not really backing up your argument!
@OP Call me cynical but that's one way to ensure that US employees who were laid off won't apply.

@ay At least I wasn't the only one that noticed that. But I think it started a little before that as people got promoted based on criteria other than experience and were so confidently wrong when making decisions.
@az FYI: all that young "Irish" talent will be from the subcontinent anyways.

Ireland is not part of the JV. Ireland has a competitive corporation tax rate, is highly progressive in terms of college education with a lot of young talent, and Capex for leasing buildings is cheap with support grants from the government - so multi nationals find it an attractive place to set up operations.
@OP Some departments, like supply chain, started transitioning to teams in Limerick, Ireland a couple of years ago. When it first started we all thought we would be replaced by Ireland. Now some US managers are reporting to them and their direct reports now have people based in Ireland. Some departments now have all hands calls that are led by executives from either London or Limerick and no one knows who is in charge. It seemed to make sense, after the BT JV, that this was in the works for a while and no one knew.

We are an American based country predominantly hiring outside the USA. The NRB had their jobs replaced by employees in India. Customer service to the Philippines. America has always been a melting pot, not sure while the trend in hiring talent out of other countries.
