The board is getting harder to use due to what looks like coordinated astroturfing—which may be the whole point. So, I’ve pivoted to calling union reps and coworkers directly, since I'm not based near a major office. The reception has been remarkably positive. People are bringing up the Teamsters, UAW, and others. If you're exploring this route, start at the AFL-CIO site (https://aflcio.org/formaunion); it’ll point you toward local chapters.

I'm out here in California, and I'll be straight with you — I'd love to know who I'm really talking to, but these days you can't be too careful. I'd wager most non management Americans are open to being organized, though. Now, if the company tries to can me for organizing, I've got family — my cousin, actually — who's got law connections, and let me tell you, they'd just love to sink their teeth into a nice wrongful termination case. And Chris — since I know you're gonna see this — how about we make a deal? You push that promotion through for me, and I'll keep my mouth shut. Fair enough?
