Thread regarding Optum layoffs

Yet Another Massive Optum Tech Outage

Entire enterprise IT stack for Optum tech down from 10PM to 4AM 100% outage across all cloud providers and regions. Not the first time this has happened. Not the second, or third either. The only way teams got out of it was by completely disabling CloudFlare.

We were forced to shift to this cloudflare architecture in 2025 and it has caused more p1s and enterprise impact by itself in this short time than I have seen in my entire career.

RCA? Pssh. We already gave them the cash. They dont care! Theyre claiming the entirety of Optum got flagged by a DDoS rule. Oops!

Leaders like PW who think moving off of the mainframe and full speed to the cloud will solve IT problems are in for a rude awakening.

Poorly written and tested software comes with many anomalies and difficulties to maintain, as you can see it’s unstable. That’s what you get when you outsource to India and hire vocationally trained staff, they are not all computer scientists LOL! The rest of the IT sector learned this 20yrs ago but when your state bird is the mosquito it seems clear UHG leaders suffer from some brain fever, couldn’t happen to nicer bunch! GTFO!!

@se it's evolving into a forum to share how sh---y things are here. If you don't like that, boot out and stop whining

If PW is smart, he'll start laying of the CTO- EVPs. They are all sh-t, pun intended as they do have a Sh--Charity. But alas he prob won't. This exec team is a disaster.. it's like someone thought that's her all the worst and form a leadership team. Pure sh-t show waiting to explode

@ks Sorry, but it doesn't. It's a $ based strategy, which has been in place for years, nothing more and nothing less.

@OP In his defense PW has stopped the full speed to the cloud that SD instituted.
Not that I'm here to defend C-suite, but at least remain fair.

@bf You are crazy if you think cSAT and customer retention doesn't impact staffing levels.

It's a f** disgrace. Like actually embarrassing and unacceptable. I work on a provider facing product and the number of issues and outages we've had in the last month is Insane.

What has this outage go to do with layoffs. Nothing.
