The only question is how. I'm still here because I'm waiting to see if I can get laid off with a severance package. I don't want to quit and then find out I could have gotten something if I'd just waited a little longer.

You will be missed!!!
Thanks, OP, for doing your part in cleaning out the butthurt deadwood.
@am We weren’t given a percentage, but the description of the future state of the department was easily 20-25%. Factor in attrition and that 30% could be accurate.
Wow, so many of you can just call it quits in your 40s and start living the good life. It must be a a really horrible company that everyone talks about on here that pays you so much you can afford to retire so early!
@az 5% × 6 does equal 30%.. but that's not how headcount works in a business that keeps hiring and 5% of a smaller number is less of a cut each time.
The team is glad to hear that
@dh
I agree. If one has already “made the decision” in their head, it’s a waste of time sticking around any longer. It’s better to be actively seeking that next opportunity than waiting for something that may not happen and lose current days and likely future days (from stress and misery) if it’s really time to go. We only get so many trips around the sun.
Just look at the budget. 5% rookie numbers. Going for 10%. Chevron Way no longer exists. Hi HR, you are bring outsourced and AI-d. 6months max. Cya.
At this point, I’m praying for PIP and take 3 month severance. It’s not really worth me staying for CIP. If I’m lucky enough to have the opportunity to take AEOI or EOI I’ll take it. I’m far from retirement age, but I’ve known several people who quit/“retired” Before 50 and doing just fine.
The question is how they will shed numbers- through PIP or layoffs or both. You have to weigh your opportunity cost with what you would be doing with that time. If you’re looking for another job, cut bait and invest that time in a new company where the years of service are more valuable. Otherwise if you stay you have to deal with the stress of knowing you’re just waiting to leave. Are you biding your time or wasting it?
@az
This is interesting info, and it makes sense. If they lay people off through 5% yearly reductions, there will be no severance. It will be a PIP and a kick in the @$$ on your way out the door. I am disappointed because after 20+ years working at Chevron, I was hoping I will get the traditional 2 weeks per year of service. The days of the "Golden Parachute" are over, except of course if you are on the "friends and family" program.
If you’re in IT, be patients and take the severance. There has to be an event to cut the number of jobs needed in the US.
LC needs to meet his numbers that he signed up for. Vast majority of AK’s department will go offshore in the next 1-3 years
The 30% will be over 6 years. 5% per year through forced ranking firings.
Yeah, sure, you and everyone else who posts on this site. Why is this news?
I'm waiting to win the lottery then I will quit working all together.
Yawn......
@a3 30% of the whole company or just certain departments. Where have you heard this?
Me too!
@OP just wait another ~6months. 30% cuts ahead of us.
