I can tell you based on my last position (VP Admin within CNC), for "regular" lay offs they "grade" employees A, B or C players. C players are then put on the short list for lay offs based on performance. If you're a "C" player, you need to be nervous.
Does that mean that if I accepted the VSP, I will get approved eventually?
Generally, if you applied they're going to exit you. Maybe at a different time, but they'll honor your request. It just might take more time if you are considered critical. I see no advantage of holding people hostage.
if you applied for VSP you should be granted your release. now if your in a pos where they cant let you go as your too critical for your POS, then they could eny it. now that is for VSP a regular layover they just pick where they need reduction, maybe you make to much money and they can let you got and repleace you with 2-3 people at a much lowe wage. it really depnds on your dept and what the company see down the road your your dept.
