Thread regarding Open Text Corp. layoffs

y so serious (negative)

internal sentiment at this company is too negative. hard to work with some people/teams with sh-t attitude and outlook as a motivated new hire and outsider, trying to make it work. cant even explain how much worse my last gig was and it was rated one of the best global employers, for years, as fortune 100. opentext is no different than other companies: team, manager, business group dictates all. if you’re developing a 30+ year old product to match what industry solution peers already have……please. like get real about who you are, what you do, the market, the future, and show up with some humility and accountability. /rant

"tone tags"

Good lord. Yup, you're GenZ. Constantly expecting everyone else to solve your problems for you.

If you can't understand subtlety or sarcasm, it's because you weren't read to as a child and you never picked up the habit of reading books on your own. You are a failure of imagination, intelligence, and grit.

GTFO of here with your pathetic, flacid, "tone tag" horse sh-t.

@am ....and there's the 'Gen Z work ethic' mentioned.

We get a bad rep, but work apathy/quiet quitting is not us specific. The millennials have it and just weren't as overt on it. They're going to be the next managers as the older portion retires. Not OP or I. There's also whole threads fighting over sarcasm comprehension/tangents when there's a $0 accessibility option called tone tags that potentially fixes that. A younger person can still have a lot of value in opentext - but the current system takes away their fire so fast. That's not good for anyone and more experienced people can likely see the issues within weeks of onboarding.

Fundamentally the people left in any 3-5 year increment going forward are inheriting a different Opentext. It's going to be everyone's choice regardless of age if they want to keep going or not. So far a good chunk of the people I'm asked to be around despite being old enough to be my parents are saying no.

@OP , if you have worked for more than eight companies and then worked for OpenJoke, you will be negative too.
It wouldn't be long before you realize this company treat its employees like sh-t.

@OP Well, give it some time. Right now that shiny new open text toy probably seems very exciting. But over time it's going to get scratched and dented, the colors will start to fade ....eventually it's going to break and fall apart. You sound like your Gen Z so you're probably not here for the Long haul like most of us have been, I give you a year, if they don't lay you off first. 😁

I'm sorry - but we're really not different aside from being late to the party when it comes to software functionality. And it's likely not getting better soon.

Don't dox your exact dept, I won't dox mine either. Pretty much every department has some internal hidden flaw. Mine just kinda gets told 'f*ck the rules/compliance sometimes'. Which is pretty bad for where I am ngl. It took a new hire like 5 months to see it's irredeemable. I believe they haven't had to essentially train other depts yet, and I pray that never happens.

There's not much to do though. OT is a predominantly older company. A lot of those before us are retiring, laid off, or were already fed up from years ago and are starting to leave. Most of my office is likely to retire in the next 5-10 years. If they aren't nudged out early. Several situations from recent layoffs have had us scrambling by proxy. I don't think we can fix this. We'll continue to bleed out, losing the 'wrong' people. Fumbling account or product handoffs along the way. It's already happening where I am.

Optimism and humility cannot make up for chronic lack of resources, training, and lost knowledge. It can start new ones, if you don't burn out by the time you're at the shared table.
