@OP Random person on internet has correct information all of the time, none of the time.
First, develop a bit of an attitude, create friction, launch provocative discussions during staff, complain to your manager that you don't get along with your peers, occasionally drop the ball. Don't do it too much, you don't want to get a performance message, you just want to make sure you are average to just below average. Just like Ferris Bueller, be sick enough to be excused from school, but don't be so sick that your parents take you to the doctor.
Then ask for being added to the list...
You can always say your mgmt in a 1:1 that you're volunteering for the next round.
