Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

Layoffs Confirmed

Confirmed layoffs are expected by the second week of September, ahead of the earnings call at the end of the month.

It’s going to be a wild few weeks. Enjoy your summer, don’t overextend yourself, and wait to see where the dust settles after September.

If the rumors are accurate, Innovation is in for a rough ride.

@ek Innovation may be first in line for maximum impact, but eliminating talent isn’t the same as fixing the underlying problem. A bloodbath may reduce headcount, but it won’t stop the hemorrhaging if leadership refuses to address the root causes.

@dy

This sh-t is so laughable to me. They want cost discipline while they fuel up the jet for the execs to feel special.

They’ll spend a quarter million dollars on new trees behind Coach K and LeBron before they’ll ever take accountability for the poor decisions made up above.

Paris 24 Olympics campaign was millions over budget due to poor decision making and planning. Somehow we run over budget when executing plans for an event four years in the making.

But sure, let’s make sure we all salute the generals at Nike military Inc. while they buggy whip us over “cost discipline”

ATTEN-HUT! Lol

@OP A trusted Senior Director told me about a month ago that the Innovation organizations were running roughly 3% or more above their headcount targets and that leadership had been reviewing those numbers with the expectation that teams get back in line.

With DD coming in, there’s added pressure for organizations to demonstrate, at least on paper, that they’re taking cost discipline seriously. If those staffing numbers are accurate, it’s difficult to see how they reach the targets without reducing headcount.

That’s not a rumor. It’s simply the math.

I haven’t heard any rumors yet but some other functions have been asking to update their IDP, won’t be surprised if there’s another reorg coming soon.

And let’s see if AC has the ball to make deep cuts at Innovation, the bureaucracy is out of control over there.

Layoffs always happen in mid September and April. Until something changes this will be the norm. We’re still over headcount targets, we still aren’t hitting the market. So we’ll continue to shed.
