Thread regarding Nike Inc. layoffs

I'm applying elsewhere and hitting a brick wall: "May we contact your current employer?

Haven't filled out a job application in over two decades and I have no idea what to do with this. If I say yes, they call my manager and I'm outed as a job-seeker. If I say no, I look like I'm hiding something. The manager already made it clear he doesn't want anyone on the team who's thinking of leaving. I don't know how to navigate this without torpedoing my current position.

Nike uses The Work Number for employment verification. Give your potential new employer that information to contact & validate. Nike likely won’t be notified if they go through that system. And even if they are, it doesn’t out you as a job seeker (people could be calling to validate your income for a mortgage or something else).

Managers are not contacted directly. Potential employers will contact HR to verify your employment information.

No one will call your manager unless you provide your manager as reference and it wouldn't be until the offer stage. If I were interviewing someone, I'd be fully aware that their current manager may want to sabotage the interview so they don't lose a top performer. What the current manager says can't be trusted by a potential new employer. The only thing companies need to verify is whether your resume info are correct.

no one is going to contact your employer until you get offer letter and background check in progress.now a days they dont even need to contact as your SSN report will bring out wether you really worked for Nike or not.

You click no, they’re not going to interview you. Yes means they will contact them post offer letter. They will just call people solutions to ensure you were in good standing and worked the years you said.
