Was reflecting lately.
3 years ago I had a talk with my manager.
Manager: “we want to promote you”
Me: “no thanks”
Manager: “….what…”
Me: “I rather use the time to focus on other things”
Manager: “you are insane, you are lazy and lack engagement”
- 1 year goes by *
Manager: “we want to promote you”
Me: “I’m handing in my resignation, you have 2 months”
Manager: “do you have something else lined up? We can give you 20% raise”
Me: “no thanks”
- starts job at new company outside of bnym
Old co-worker: “your old group is an absolute dumpster fire”
Me: “Yeah I know. Want to come over here?”
Old co-worker: “yeah that would be awesome”
- few months go by
*arrives at bnym 500 Ross street in Pitt
Me: “I’m here to help clean out xyz’s desk”
Old Manager: “How have you been? Are you ”
Me: “Leaving your group was the best thing ever and I encourage others to do the same. I love my new job, I made a $1M, got a patent, and will be taking xyz with me”
Update: the old co-worker I brought with me just bought his new house after agreeing to come with me and is looking to start a family.
My new manager that hired me to the new company helped me get into an Ivy League school and I am entering my master’s. I currently work full-time and go to school part-time. My first patent is brining in a few royalties, not much but some. I plan to buy a house in a year after school and settling down.
