Thread regarding Bank of New York Mellon Corp. layoffs

Reflection

Was reflecting lately.
3 years ago I had a talk with my manager.
Manager: “we want to promote you”
Me: “no thanks”
Manager: “….what…”
Me: “I rather use the time to focus on other things”
Manager: “you are insane, you are lazy and lack engagement”

  • 1 year goes by *

Manager: “we want to promote you”
Me: “I’m handing in my resignation, you have 2 months”
Manager: “do you have something else lined up? We can give you 20% raise”
Me: “no thanks”

  • starts job at new company outside of bnym

Old co-worker: “your old group is an absolute dumpster fire”
Me: “Yeah I know. Want to come over here?”
Old co-worker: “yeah that would be awesome”

  • few months go by

*arrives at bnym 500 Ross street in Pitt

Me: “I’m here to help clean out xyz’s desk”
Old Manager: “How have you been? Are you ”
Me: “Leaving your group was the best thing ever and I encourage others to do the same. I love my new job, I made a $1M, got a patent, and will be taking xyz with me”

Update: the old co-worker I brought with me just bought his new house after agreeing to come with me and is looking to start a family.
My new manager that hired me to the new company helped me get into an Ivy League school and I am entering my master’s. I currently work full-time and go to school part-time. My first patent is brining in a few royalties, not much but some. I plan to buy a house in a year after school and settling down.

I am hung 13 inches and need to cut holes in my underwear to stay comfortable. I was offered a 2 million bonus to act in adult films but I decided to stay an BNY instead. Upon reflection, I am glad I remained here. They had me at free coffee.

Op,
Assembly language and you are also going bring back the IBM 360 and the DEC PDP 1170. Yessiree, 1969 is going to be a great year!
And you also drive a 1948 Tucker, pay zero in taxes and are engaged to Ginger from ‘Gilligan’s Island’. Anyone who blows on and on about money and what they claim to have and do, usually are not. You are so full of it, you should have a portable septic tank following you for drainage.

OP here, thought I would answer some questions or assertions that were noticed.
The new job is in NYC. I go to Princeton University now. The patent I own is related to computer vision which is a topic I focused on prior to getting into grad school. I live with one of my parents (no rent, but I do help out). I don’t spend much at all, and the company is paying for the majority of my tuition and I got grants to cover the rest. I am on W-2, but I collect half of my compensation in the form of stock. My compensation package this year is $300K+ solely because of stock doing so well. I have $1M because they granted me so much stock when I was signed on and the price went up very high because the company is centered around AI chips making. I recommend everyone to try and learn assembly for programming as that will be around for the future.

Wow! One is so bored that he/she ends up conjuring up and writing a story in this site to the BNY audience. Is he about to go 'postal' ?

Hahahah this is obvious fiction. The funniest part is the assertion that they got a job at another company as a standard W-2 employee (assumedly coming from an ops background so not stepping into a hedge fund PM role or anything) and making a million dollars without being the founder. Further, their new company lets them keep IP (the patent) they developed while at said company. Then, despite that theoretically huge (and repeatable) rainfall of $1MM and free IP, decides to go back to get a masters degree from an Ivy. If you were making a million you wouldn’t go back to school, unless MAYBE it was top tier MBA, which anyone actually doing would know that Harvard and Wharton MBAs don’t refer to their degrees and programs as “master’s,” and they would know enough to understand that a boss can only write you a recommendation letter as part of your broader application, not just broadly “help you get in.”

Just wanted to help for your next piece of fiction you might want to post on Reddit or thelayoff.

The only part I don’t doubt is the passing up of promotions and maybe quitting. The rest is so fun!
