Thread regarding Bank of America layoffs

Was a long time employee. Always received exceeds on my reviews, except for early last year. Got a met/met so they could place me on the list.

I learned a lot from the bank and now are using my knowledge someplace else that truly appreciates, honesty, hard work, customer service while watching the bottom line.

Many times it is who you know and not the quality of work.

It used to be a great company.

Still have many friends left in corporate and hope they are safe.

I agree- I was thinking how much better employees were treated under Ken Lewis.

Chances are your boss doesn't want to let anyone go. They are forced to and many times don't have a choice on who they let go. Its a very sterile anti-humanitarian process and they cant really say anything to you other than read a script. Don't have hard feelings for your boss, if they didn't do it someone else would and they would be let go too.

I had to let someone go and absolutely hated it. Also over the past couple years 2 of my SVP managers were let go due to cuts.

BofA has went from one of the best employers to bottom tier. Despite the poor business decisions Ken made, I would take him any day over BM.

I too have had to taste humility. A consistent high performer, ranked as top talent, E/E when the numbers have to be hit, you are a number. As a leader when I knew this was happening for my team, I always partnered with recruiting and tried to place them in other positions based on their skill sets....you want to retain good talent. However that practice/partnership seems to be replaced with a new technology culture, of directing the traffic to the posting and post for the position. So the recruiters today are just managing by reports and personally experiencing the process myself, never interact with the applicant expect for when they send out a possible interview invite. Long gone are the days where they give you a quick synopsis of the job and what they're looking for. By no means is this a call out on recruiters, it's a call out on top leadership to walk in the shoes of these people and experience the layoff, the posting process and for those who are left working....How productive are they now? No one can function in an environment where there is no trust. Those that are left are looking for jobs, on bank time, more than I am on a severance package. I know that for a fact. It's time to transfer our knowledge to our competitors and find a different culture.

Same here, was always Exceeds/Meets or Exceeds/Exceeds. Doesn't seem to matter. I saw people with 40 years let go just the same as someone with 2 years. The only thing I didn't see a lot of was Merrill people let go. And TCS/Infosys contractors taking over all the positions of course.

I was laid off yesterday, with an exceeds/exceeds every year. My manager of of years of whom I thought was my friend didn't even tell me good bye or even called me.

I am so disheartened by the layoffs today. The people I know that were let go were icons in the company, steller performers, amazing ethics, knowlegeable, compassionate and kind-hearted. Sending prayers and good fortune to all. This door has closed, so now you can walk through the open door with a new self worth, seeking out better opportunities. Please take some time to rest from the constant stress. I may be safe today, but there is no security in a company that ships jobs overseas. Isn't this b of a? America? Crimany. Don't think I can compose myself anymore right now. Best of luck to everyone impacted.

There are still good people left that shake in their shoes everyday. I'm sorry for everyone that lost a job this week at every level, sadly sorry for some good leaders that were let go today, that knew the business, recognized the risks and learned from mistakes, leaders today don't know the history and are fumbling making decisions, it's really sad

I have received exceeds\exceeds every year of my 10 years at the bank and even received my six sigma green belt certification through the bank and I was laid off today. It doesn't matter in the banks eyes everyone is just a number and disposable there

Same here! Exceeds exceeds exceeds! For several years in a row! In the end, it didn't even matter who I knew! A VP that I knew and who knew my work for 8 yrs still let me go! Still waiting for that "happy" feeling! 6 months pregnant when they let me go, so I'm a bit bitter due to my insurance plan! Bitter because I know there are one or two people on my old team that didn't care as much as I did! I honestly cared about my work and the bank! Bitter because I went above and beyond and was still let go! It makes me sick that HR doesn't care enough to account for all of this and are changing people's lives in a instance! This site is great! You see others going through the same thing that can relate!!

You're right, performance doesn't matter if you are an Exceeds associate, you face job cuts. Seems in my case, the worst people were left with job security at BOA.

That's correct your performance doesn't matter. A whole department was let go today with very valuable people. Instead of giving them another job within the company they got the boot. Don't ever believe when any management says you are safe and don't have anything to worry about. They're liars!

Anyone can be cut. Reviews mean nothing. Now it is the role, location and whether you can be replaced by a contractor or a BACI. This is why it is so scary, you never know according to someone's business plan whether you factor into their long term plan. Honestly, I won't go out of my way to go above and beyond now, because I'd rather save my energy and sanity for myself and my family. Best of luck to those who left today, volunteer and unwillingly. I am envious of the moment next week you wake up without the toxic stress of this place. Every single person who has left has told me they had no idea how much stress this place put on them. Life ahd Happiness mean more.
