Thread regarding Whole Foods Market Inc. layoffs

Good News for the Industry but Bad News for Whole Foods

http://www.streetinsider.com/Analyst+Comments/Survey+Shows+Loss+of+Marketshare+For+Whole+Foods+(WFM)+-+Piper+Jaffray/11501452.html

Piper Jaffray analyst, Sean Naughton, concluded his 10th Annual Survey of the natural and organic food sector. While this is good news for the overall category, it remains a challenge for sales trends at Whole Foods Market (NASDAQ: WFM) in the near- to medium-term as the trend goes mainstream and draws the larger players. Survey results are largely positive for Whole Foods in terms of brand awareness and preferences; however, the frequency with which customers are selecting WFM as a place they shop for groceries continues to decline. Fewer consumers are selecting Whole Foods as a place they shop for groceries.

Yes, WFM has lost market share and that's a big problem. 365 isn't likely to solve it either. Customers have voted with their feet. Lately, team members are as well since many are leaving for companies that actually have a viable business plan and future.

they know exactly how much you spend, you have a discount card...they don't estimate anything.

I have encouraged and influenced hundreds of others to shop elsewhere. I do enjoy the large packages of 365 green tea bags...other than that, forget it. I shop at TJ's, Publix, and sometimes at Aldi because they have organic cereals and dressings now that are really great at a ridiculously low price.

I guess I will just have to miss out on Starkey Water and $36 olive oil.

When my husband and I worked for WFM we did all of our grocery shopping there. Not anymore!

PT Team Members making less $ also means less large basket sales. I've felt for a long time that the company underestimates how much the invested Team Member spends.
