Thread regarding Whole Foods Market Inc. layoffs

Is this true?

Somebody mentioned in another thread that they've heard big and expensive to run stores will be closing, and mentioned Lamar in Austin among them.

Can't figure out if this is an actual rumor or somebody trolling. Has anybody heard more about this? Any info would be appreciated.

Any technology can be made to work in ONE store. That's not the problem here. The issue here has been and always will be that nothing will work until every region's varying versions of 40-year-old software (one per region) are eliminated and replaced with a 2018-era web-based integrated POS, inventory management, purchasing and ordering systems. As long as it's profitable any location will remain, but what isn't profitable is the adjacent headquarters building. It needs to be closed down and rented out because there is no need for it anymore.

Although it may seem probable, imo the potential PR fallout wouldn't make it a smart decision. It would be an ideal sandbox for low risk development of new tech, software and marketing programs which could then be beta tested before it goes live. The store is making the sales (if accurate, $1M/week is enough to get a good analysis but not disrupt the bottom line) and it's located in an area with a relatively diverse market mix. With the headquarters right there, it could be the perfect trojan horse for a company seeking to break the mold in this market. But that's just my opinion. :)

Those in the sw know Lamar will never be shut down. It’s a show store to entice investors and even if they are just breaking even they bring a million dollars in sales every week to top

Line sales.

The store will live on in some fashion, but the reality is that ultimately HEADQUARTERS ITSELF will be closed. There is no need for a PR showplace next to a corporate headquarters that no longer serves any purpose. The whole point of the flagship was to stroke the egos of the co-CEOs. They're off to retirement land, so just keep working and remember that $13.6 billion has to come out of somebody's hide.

We have scuttled very few stores over the decades, and almost every one of them was post-merger with one of the many companies that we absorbed. Saturated areas with too many stores, aging facilities, etc. The "Big and expensive to run" stores are definitely not in that tiny fringe category.

Not sure about Lamar but it is a true estatement. Poor performance stores are not immune to be shut down. Mackey said it himself. Google it n youll see it in youtube. Your store is not performing he is not afraid to pull the plug. So yes it is true.
