Apple needs a 5G modem completed by summer 2018. The "leaders in 5G" ( Intel if you don't recall) are struggling to get their next gen modem released (The same one Qualcomm released 2 years ago).

WTH Intel?

I took the ERP last year with zero regrets. I've been talking to some of the survivors and it's a tripled workload with 50% less people. The client roadmap has exploded with so many fewer people it's a losing proposition that will make people sick.
