Topics regarding layoffs at Optum

layoffs the real deal this time

In the past, I've seen multiple layoffs, at least in my area, that were really just excuses to eliminate the roles of low performers to repurpose dollars to other areas. This time, there are really strong staff members and leaders being cut. This is... — read more

AI experts

Any leadership speaking of AI or LLM while 70% claims are processed in mainframe - should be publicly slapped. 70 slaps/ minute. Shameless!

Toxic.. time to move on

These layoffs have just become ridiculous one after another after another then more this summer and winter. Optum continuously lays off. It’s toxic and the millions of dollars the Executive leadership takes is sickening. Our CEO isn’t even from this... — read more

Terrible way to find out about layoffs

How do they think an employee feels upon learning that layoffs are happening from an email sent by his colleague who was laid off?? And how does such a practice of no transparency affect the morale of the remaining employees?

Optum Layoffs

Optum just cut a bunch of jobs and implemented a hiring freeze throughout UnitedHealthcare, today.

Layoffs again ugh

I heard of mass layoffs yesterday and more coming. Do you know what departments were affected? And are they clinical roles?

There won't be enough of us left

Another layoff round would completely decimate my group. If we lose one more person, not to mention more, we won't be able to do our jobs. This is not us being lazy or unwilling to pick up extra work, we've done that before. There is simply a limited... — read more

Layoffs as control tool

It may not just be about cost cutting. The concept of regular "purging" as a tool to keep people on their toes is based on instilling fear and uncertainty to drive certain behaviour or performance. It involves the recurring threat or act of... — read more

Prioritize your needs and set boundaries

While it's understandable to feel disheartened by the transactional nature of work, it's also important to take care of your own well-being and prioritize your own needs. It's okay to seek out organizations and workplaces that align with your... — read more

Obsession with Retail

What's this obsession with retail IT folks from Kohl's, Amazon, Target, Best Buy ....and then getting rid of them in few years?

Odd skip level setup with C level

Asking for a friend… Is it common as part of a RIF to receive a skip level meeting request with your C level out of the blue? About 10 people on invite, all likely mid level management. Does this indicate they made “the list”?

It's not all bad

Some managers (VPs too) who had ballz quit and maybe saved some jobs. Others, oh well , we know them. This whole thing is so bizarre, it was not an RIF, not an business situation, trying to solve a made up problem which doesn't exist.

Mandatory Bell curve performance calibration

First they overload you and then they criticize you

Maybe I would accept the criticism if the scope of my work was smaller, however, if you overload an employee with a double or triple workload, I think it is very unfair to blame him if not all the work is done well. What do they want from employees... — read more
