Thread regarding Thomson Reuters layoffs

Hard work means nothing here

I've been struggling with motivation lately and I think I know why. I've been seeing the people who work the hardest get laid off while the ones who barely contribute get to keep their jobs. It doesn't matter how well you perform, you're just as likely to be cut. Why should anyone care about doing a good job when effort isn't rewarded?

Hard work means absolutely nothing. That's the funny part about the layoffs not being about performance. They definitely aren't replacing the people that were laid off with knowledgeable replacements, look at the GoFileRoom team and what they did to it at the end of 2025. No way they thought that through. Now more cuts. It's always fun when you have people who know nothing about the programs making impactful decisions. Then throwing their hands up and saying, "it's not performance related." Clowns.

@16x they protect the company and work on firing and layoffs. Given how miserable everyone seems to be and want to quit on their own it seems they are doing a great job…

@q3 agree I have never seen in any other places HR to be so useless, not quite sure what they do....

Weird how when you give 1% or lower raises, use PIPS to manage headcount, eliminate career progression and take away anything "extra" for employees, people are less motivated? How odd. What a joke TR has become. Wish I had Haskers job security. Also, I thought HR was bad prior to joining TR, WOW. They are the worst I have ever seen.

As someone who left, it's better to just see this a step in your career, where it funds your life until you find the next and better opportunity. You won't be compensated for working harder. The only reason to take on a special project is if it helps you get that next better opportunity.

Always remember - the T Fam owns approx 67% of the company, and they're like in the top 50 richest people in the world.

OP, are you new or something? Merit, contribution and work ethic hasn't meant anything at TR, for a while. And you can see the result. Just look at the stock for the past few years.

The culture is insane - riddled with process and bureaucracy for its own sake, which then counts for nothing when they decide they want to lay you off. And some of the senior “leaders” are outright evil.
