it is a title change in reality. Pay check does not change with the title change.

TLDR, those that got demoted su-ked at their role

@ds May for now.
My AVP was asked to be Sr Director or leave. He decided to leave. They were told that they do not need AVPs anymore

@ae not true unless it happening in other spots first. Whole team reports up to an AVP.

@b7 yet factually there have been and will continue to be more. I don’t understand why people comment with incorrect info that can easily be fact checked

@bj how is this fake news when there factually multiple examples already? 😂

this is fake news. what was the point then of Sam Hammock adding all these extra titles if we are just going back the old system!?

There will be title adjustments in finance soon. directors and vp’s will be moved a level down. If AD, you will become sr mgr.

@OP I have seen people ask for a return to a lower position as they did not want to have direct reports or less reports. Not everyone wants to move up. Some people just want to do the job they like and not work a lot of extra hours and have as many responsibilities.

Yes, this happens. In November, an SD in New England GNT was laid off and her boss, an AVP, was demoted to her SD role. I’ve also heard of ADs being demoted to principal. Sometimes these moves mean teams are about to be consolidated. If this had anything to do with you, you probably would have been laid off when your AVP was demoted.

AVP role has been eliminated. You can be either Sr Director or VP.

Sometimes happens as a maneuver to keep you and get rid of someone else.

@a5 Happens more than you think. It starts with a choice. Lose your job or take a demotion. Most chose to take the money and leave.

Which org? VCG strategy? Transformation? Lots of useless AVP and Sr Directors hiding and doing useless work.

Are you sure this is a demotion or just renaming a role? In some orgs there are no AVPs just SDs reporting to VPs and ADs reporting to SDs. Other orgs have sr mgr, dir, avp, vp. Maybe they’re renaming roles for consistency

@OP I have seen several throughout my career. People leaders who were awful in that role and put back to individual contributor, people leaders who were demoted rather than get laid off bc they were promoted bc they were an asset to the company... happens more often than ya think... usually only the direct teams are aware of the moves.
