I spent two decades here. I showed up every day, I gave it my all, I went above and beyond, I never once had a complaint about my work. And what did that get me? Nothing. I'm out of a job and looking back, I realize I was just a number to them. All that loyalty and effort didn't count for anything in the end.

@OP+1kxxq90p6 , I am assuming that twenty years ago, you willingly entered into an at-will employment agreement. You willingly agreed to exchange your “labor” for wages and benefits. So, you ask…”What did that get me?”

A more accurate way to explain your relationship with Verizon: You were a “Business Expense” that was paid a labor market wage for your services. Hopefully, your mortgage is paid off, you don’t have credit card debt, and you are in great health. Best of luck.
I learned this in 2018, after three years in VZW. Someone on the team also said the same thing after 25 years. This started my FIRE movement. I also became stupid for staying in Verizon. Then later in the same year, jobs started leaving the state to another state. I asked, can I work at home. Unofficially, the manager said yes, go ahead but report to office once a week.
I did not have to buy a car since then. All went into this crazy tech value burst.
Yep, and never keep any personal stuff at the desk or on the company computer. There is no loyalty either direction. Do the job you were hired for, and be done.
