Thread regarding Centene Corp. layoffs

Any vsp information shared yet

Curious, if any other people leaders have been informed on those that requested the VSP yet. And if so, how is that process going?

A recent post on here states they were advised by their people leader they are approved. Do the markets have a different process? Something feels off.. seeing post where some still no nothing to post employees know they are approved?

@OP I am a VP and just learned about who on my team applied. I had to answer questions about the criticality of the work those individuals do but at no point was I given the option to approve or reject the VSP application. Similar to what another poster said, every single VP I interact with is frustrated and disappointed by the way this VSP was handled.

@at agree pushing out dates is nuts, then telling the PL if you offer a later exit date and employee isn't on board then they forfeit the VSP.

@bh I guess you forget to mention about so called "knowledge transfer". In last 3/4 years, I was invited atleast 20 of those knowledge transfer meeting. And one of the 7, were there as the vessel of knowledge transfer!! and never saw anything being transferred.

@ba Thanks... just trying to be a normal decent person.

I'll say this: every VP I know at my company and others across the enterprise... every single one is fed up with corporate. We're all just as angry about the way VSP was communicated (not communicated, really) and the general state of Centene. It's been a stressful year since Q1, and VSP was just the first time some of the Corporate pressure was on display to most employees.

They eliminated all merit increases for field leaders this year (but Sarah and her team got their raises and bonuses, of course). They restructured leadership positions last summer, effectively demoting most field leaders and promoting all Corporate Staff VPs.

Corporate is micromanaging every little thing, more reporting spreadsheets than ever, hiring freezes, spending freezes, loads of mandated Corporate "savings" programs and endless meetings about them, all kinds of short-sighted pressure.

So many useless Corporate project managers. You get on calls with two local people and 7 Corporate project managers... one to do the intro, one to run the meeting, one to "take notes" through Copilot, and four to waste money, I guess. And then you find out none of them are actually doing work -- there's a vendor who actually does things. Then after the meeting, they want the local people to document everything and submit two tickets...

Centene leadership isn't setting a coherent strategy for the company, and every SVP at Corporate is pushing out their priorities, their pet projects, and their empire building. None of it is coordinated with other Corporate departments or initiatives. None of them have every read a state contract or RFP, but that doesn't stop them from acting like god's gift.

None of it has anything to do with delivering on the contracts that actually generate revenue and help the people we're here to serve.

@at Excellent post thank you for that informative post. You sound like a very fair and decent human. I hope my VP has the same outlook on VSP.

Subsidiary SVP here.

Middle of last week, HR talked with me about the people under me who applied. There was not option to accept or reject -- they're all accepted unless there's a weird exception, like a majority of the dept. applying. And even then, I think you'd probably only get to delay some of the end dates.

There were only two real questions I was a really asked:

  1. Is there is a compelling reason to delay the end date for them (from Sept. to either Dec., Mar. or June)? But even there, it wasn't really a question. It was only an option in case there is some major compliance or finance issue. And they presented it like March and June weren't really options.

  2. Do the positions need to be backfilled? And the pressure was not to backfill, because each unfilled VSP vacancy equates to someone else not getting laid off.

Personally, I think it would be unethical to alter the end date. Centene put a specific offer out there, and they accepted it. It wouldn't be right to unilaterally change the deal. So my VSP people are leaving in Sept, and we're not backfilling.

I don't know how we're going to stay compliant and actually achieve results, but Corp. doesn't really care about that right now. I'm sure they'll blame the departments and health plans when the noncompliance penalties start showing up. Consequences for the little people, never accountability for corporate.

@ah very difficult that's for sure. A few VSP reps said that the decisions will be between the 15th and 27th though so who knows really.

The wait for the next 2 weeks is going to be difficult. I hope they let us know sooner

Director level and up definitely know who applied and in some cases, they already know who got approved. I know this for a fact

At the 1:1 with my sup today she mentioned she doesn't even know who applied to the VSP yet (only those who told her in confidence) and won't know for sure till next week to get a head count. She mentioned how cr-ppy upper leadership has been being "transparent" . As far as she knows, she's as much in the dark as the rest of us and this is unlike anything else she has seen. I trust her 1000% so I know she is being truthful.

God help us all.
