Thread regarding Optum layoffs

Does UHC ever get hit?

Why is it mostly us at Optum that have to worry about our jobs all the time? There are many GL 30 and 31 with no directs over at UHC, while at Optum GL29 has 15 directs. Seems they need an alignment.

@14w not true at all. Many payers use ORx as thier PBA. I don't have UHC but need to use ORx for mail order.

@14y I heard Medicare and retirement is what is keeping UHC afloat. This is a public company so there must be valuations available publicly..,

@13w you are absolutely wrong. The other person is correct. If you look at the company evaluation and revenue you'll realize UHC is keeping UHG afloat DESPITE optum. I am been on both sides and UHC su-ks. I would rather be on Optum side but staying facts here

@13s not really, nobody wants Optums sh---y software. Plus a lot them are not allowed by federal policies due to access to competitors data that could help UHC and create monopoly. Name one software thats retail and makes millions? UHC medicare, E&I, MA etc makes billions each year. Don't get me wrong, I have UHC to the core. It's a rotten cesspool

@13y orx costumers are all UHC members! So no, UHC is still your money maker

@e7 You realize over half of UHG revenue is from Optum, right? ORx is a huge money maker.

@13s Exactly! This UHC person is delulu! The only service we help UHC with on the Optum side, is the myuhc website. We provide technical resources and client feedback that we get from Optum behavioral Health. These are Optum provider groups that use that site. The nerve of this ignorant person. 🙄😁

@e7 That's crazy UHC isn't even a customer of a lot of our products. Most of the major heathcare systems in America use Optum software.

@e7 UHC has a ton less technical people and a lot more overhead. Not knowing what Optum does, doesn’t make Optum less profitable. Optum has much more work-streams and clients. What an ignorant comment! I worked in both and preferred Optum.

@e7 This isn’t true. Optum owns a ton of software and brings in money that way. Over 100 softwares. Optum also owns several provider groups. UHC is absolutely not, the sole money maker. Optum is the technical arm; Optum has Aetna and Bluecross as clients for payer integrity among other things. I worked in both UHC and Optum. Apples vs Oranges. No need to try and make one “sound superior”

Optum also acquires a crazy amount of businesses per year. They also acquire all their employees and once the deal is done Optum usually doesn’t need all those acquired employees plus the existing Optum employees to do all the functions. This leads to more layoffs

There have been monthly layoffs in UHC too. The numbers have been a little smaller and they're hitting more UHC departments overall. So it might be just 1 or 2 people in a larger team, and they keep it very hush-hush. People just quietly disappear or retire. When I was laid off earlier this year (from UHC) I only knew of a handful of the others even though I was told I was one of about 300 laid off that month.

UHC is the money maker and the biggest customer of Optum. Optum is net loss. Without UHC Optum will have no businesses, no other companies are going to but it's sh---y products. No to mention Optum tech teams are terrible, offshore especially. UHC is not great either but they have lot more business folks.
