Cant even figure out batteries
- Barton Malow confirmed layoffs at the $3 billion GM and Samsung SDI battery cell plant in New Carlisle, Indiana, as construction enters a slower phase.
- The company described the cuts as a normal part of the construction cycle and noted that affected workers may return once project activity increases.
- The Indiana facility, part of GM’s goal to produce 1 million electric vehicles annually in North America, includes two large buildings valued at $875 million and $855 million.
- Work paused as Samsung reviewed equipment design changes, though construction is still expected to finish by December 2027.
- The slowdown reflects broader trends in manufacturing and clean-tech construction, with similar delays at Kore Power’s Arizona site and Intel’s Ohio One semiconductor project.

Fuji's U.S. operations has been hemorrhaging for the better part of the past few years with declining sales and market pressures due to ongoing import tariffs.
Keeping the ex-pats in the U.S. protects reducing personnel in Japan and abroad.

New tariffs can only help national chip manufacturing
https://www.cnn.com/2025/10/10/politics/rare-earths-china-trump-threats
“Trump says he’ll impose new 100% tariff on China ‘over and above’ current rates“
At these tariff rates, the Chinese will be at a huge disadvtantage and American companies will be propelled far into the lead. Think about how this helps national chip manufacturing - evening out the playing field so locally manufactured will be the preferred source.

Did someone say strike in VT?
Why did they strike again?
It's too much
I have three roles shoved onto my plate and at this point I'm just trying to keep the lights on. Some weeks I survive on coffee and sheer stubbornness, but to say it's burning me out would be an understatement. The whole arrangement feels temporary and unfair to anyone with a life outside work.
McKinsey EBU
I heard that McKinsey will be moving on from PSBU and going to EBU. Have fun with that. If you dont know who they are I would check out John Oliver's last week tonight deep dive on them. With the slow downs in EBU (shifts being cut, layoffs, reduced work weeks) and now McKinsey, I would watch out there.

No quick way back for Intel
https://www.fudzilla.com/news/61826-no-quick-way-back-for-intel
"The wider message from Haas was clear: once you’re late in the semiconductor business, there’s no catching up. Intel’s challenge is not just technological but cultural. Haas noted that manufacturing in the West is often seen as blue-collar, low-status work, in Taiwan, a job at TSMC is viewed as prestigious and well-paid."

Hypocrisy Anyone?
Here’s your investor relations meeting:.
Q: Does Intel use its own manufacturing?
A; Nope we cant rely on it but It’ll be ready in a few years.
Thank you for the lunch. Don’t call us, we’ll call you.
Show me the Chips
Intel had better produce something from an Intel fab at volume soon or Intel and the US Government are going to be sued for the mother of all investment scams.
What questions do you have for SETH?
Brave of them to take questions after the chaos of the selections. I’m sure they will filter the questions and provide their own questions to control the narrative.
Intel spikes on reports of potential AMD manufacturing deal
If anything, this makes some reasonable sense. Since IFS has experience making x86, which a large % of equipment is optimized for... so that's would make any transition 100x easier vs a non x86 design. AMD get's access to a US supplier to appease the Administration, and get a 2nd source instead of TSMC, which would give them both some diversification, and more importantly, some possible pricing relief. The biggest hurdle is AMD willing to send money to their biggest PC and Server competitor... or are the benefits offset that risk. Given IFS isn't going to be profitable with or without AMD... there's actually a reasonable chance AMD would sign on to IFS (prob with some old legacy designs just in case IFS sc--ws the pooch... like they have the last 15 years).

Oil Expected to Crash to $50 in early 2026
https://www.eia.gov/outlooks/steo/
Global oil prices. We expect the Brent crude oil price will decline significantly in the coming months, falling from $68 per barrel (b) in August to $59/b on average in the fourth quarter of 2025 (4Q25) and around $50/b in early 2026
So it's only gonna get worse in 2026 then, I guess it really is time to jump ship. There was another thread a few months ago asking where halliburton was headed and it seems to me that they want to return to a pure services company, at least stateside. This is why they're purging all manufacturing from here. Seems like the only answer if you work in the manufacturing side is to get out. There is absolutely no future and they're telling us all every time they close another building.
I was told dbs lease on the building only has 1 year left on it. somehow i don't think they will be renewing it.
vote yes bc older t rates taking advantage of newer t rates
