I wonder what kind of malarkey the CFO & CEO are putting together to make Humana look so good. Wonder if they will say anything about all the qualified and experienced workers they are displacing.

Humana, and all of these large for-profit health insurance corporations, need to have their Medicare & Medicaid contracts taken away by the government. These corporations have milked and taken advantage of a system that has propped up these corporations that are not only fulfilling their end of the bargain.

The whole reason for these cooperations administering Medicare Advantage, in lieu of Traditional Medicare was to help keep costs from getting out of hand by guarding against fraud, waste, and abuse. But instead of fulfilling THAT mandate, these corporations are lining c-suite executives and shareholder’s pockets with millions of dollars, all the while in denying catastrophic health claims to the elderly, poor, and disabled AND displacing its own American citizen workforce with cheaper temporary H-1B Visas. And these corporations are not even dealing with the fraud, waste, and abuse. But they are denying legitimate claims.

These for-profit corporations would not even exist if not propped up by American tax payer monies. And yet they continue to layoff their very own country’s (Americans) workers, some of which even served their country during wars. This is a slap in the face to this country!

Novant Health has eliminated 31 revenue cycle positions. This action was taken to address redundancies within the organization. The healthcare system stated the cuts align with its strategic goals. These goals include expanding patient access and improving affordability. The company regularly reviews its structure to meet community needs.

All of these large for-profit health insurance corporations such as Humana, Cigna, Centene, Elevance, etc. really need to go under or have the government completely remove their contracts for administering Medicare & Medicaid and those contracts need to be granted to non-profit and not-for-profit companies.

Shareholders and large banking firms never should have gotten their greedy fingers into heath insurance, which is intended to be a lifesaving and quality of life industry for our elderly seniors (and also the poor and disabled), which are human-beings, our brothers and sisters, that deserve our love and respect.

UnitedHealth reported Q2 earnings this morning, and it’s worth looking beyond the headline. Digging in we see:

The contrast with Centene couldn’t be much clearer. Both companies are dealing with membership pressure. The difference is that UnitedHealth is framing fewer members as a strategic choice in pursuit of a stronger operating model. Pricing, product decisions, analytics, AI, clinical execution, and disciplined growth all appear to be moving in the same direction.

Centene has spent the last year talking about Mission Simplify, reorganizations, buyouts, cost discipline, and a smaller organization. The stock has rebounded sharply from last year’s selloff, but that’s regained investor confidence… not necessarily proof the operating model has materially improved. It’s easy to look at the stock price this year vs. same time last year when it was in the dumpster.

The key takeaway and where the focus should be: Healthcare is no longer a game of who has the most members. It’s become who can generate the best outcomes with the members they have. With me so far?

Both companies will definitely end up serving fewer people. The difference is whether that’s the result of a stronger operating model… or simply a smaller organization. Both companies are getting smaller. UnitedHealth is treating it as a strategy. Centene is trying to convince investors it’s an opportunity.

And then there’s AI. UnitedHealth isn’t starting from scratch. While they’ve been embedding analytics and AI deeper into the operating model, Centene was very slow out of the blocks… and it has spent much of the last year restructuring, reducing costs, and trying to regain its footing. That’s a lot of ground to make up as AI becomes the next competitive battleground. Maybe they have the core competency internally, but I’ve never seen it, and you definitely can’t outsource it.

One of Centene’s guiding principles the past couple of years, “We do what’s right, not what’s easy.” The easy part was making the company smaller. The hard part is proving it became better.

The stage gets much bigger on the 27th. That’s where leadership has to show investors that Mission Simplify wasn’t just about reducing costs, but it’s resulted in a fundamentally stronger company. That’s what the market will be listening for. I’m not very optimistic they’ll pull it off.

The main problem is that our government contracts public traded corporations such as the above mentioned to take tax payer government funds and allow these companies to make administrative decisions on what claims get paid or not. The main issue with that is these are profit-based corporations required to put shareholders profits before members. The Medicare & Medicaid Members are secondary to them in regards to being their customer. The shareholders are their priority customer.

It is time for the government to drop these public stock traded health insurance corporations and find a way to contract with not-for-profit, non-public-stock-traded, companies to administer Medicare Advantage and Medicaid.

I’m not exactly a fan of Trump, but I do give him and, more importantly, Oz credit for cracking down on healthcare fraud. We all know the health/medical system has flown largely under the radar. That time appears to be over and I’m all for rounding up rogue doctors, hospital administrators, nurses, pharmacists, DME providers, etc.

Getting laid off doesn't feel like a neutral “business decision”, it's a gutless move against the people who actually kept the work in healthcare technology running while others coasted and still kept their badges. I spent years cleaning up messes. Now somehow I’m the one pushed out. It’s sickening to watch a company in the health space reward bare‑minimum effort, ignore the impact on real people and communities, and then speak in corporate jargon about “efficiency” and “alignment” as if no one can see through the lies. The program, called Pharmacy Forward, is supported by a $100 million ​investment through 2028, the health insurer said.
