Merit Doesn't Care About Your Nationality.

I'm tired of hearing the same lazy narrative that Indian H1B IT professionals are "stealing jobs."

Let's settle a few things.

Indian IT professionals didn't invent the global labor market. Companies did.

If an employer in the U.S. hires someone from India, it's because they believe that person delivers better value , not because someone stole a seat at the table.

Many Indian engineers work 12–16 hour days, often across multiple time zones, while being paid significantly less than their counterparts in the West. That isn't exploitation by Indian workers; it's a business decision made by the companies doing the hiring. Or Companies wisely hiring 6 people in India instead of 1 person in west for same budget.

So here's my question: Why do some people assume they're entitled to earn five or six times more simply because they were born in a different country? In a capitalist market, compensation follows perceived value, skills, demand, and business economics—not nationality.

Another claim I constantly see is that Indians are somehow less capable. Yet if you look across the global technology industry, you'll find Indian-origin leaders running some of the world's most influential companies. That didn't happen because of charity. It happened because they proved themselves.

No one is forcing companies to hire Indian engineers. No one is forcing founders or executives to build engineering teams in Hyderabad or Bengaluru. Those decisions are made because businesses believe they're getting exceptional talent and results.

If you believe someone is taking your job, perhaps the better question isn't "Why did they hire them?" but "Why did they choose them over me?"

That's how competition works.

You don't have to like globalization. You don't have to like outsourcing. But blaming individual engineers who accepted opportunities offered to them misses the point entirely.

If you disagree, explain why. I'm interested in arguments based on facts and economics—not stereotypes.

JD Vance Details Probe Into Alleged H-1B Visa Fraud :

Comcast stats —> Layoffs/H1-Bs/Offshoring

COMCAST CABLE COMMUNICATIONS, LLC ranks #62 of 9,347 employers tracked on layoff notices in 2026. New titles have been slapped on old, “cut” positions in order to recruit throughout tech hubs overseas. Comcast has 6,740 LCA filings (H1-Bs/offshoring) from FY2015 through FY2026. This isn’t even all of them as more have been done. The median reported wage across these filings is $111,163. Its largest state footprint is Pennsylvania with 3,909 filings. The most common job title on its filings is Software Developers but many tech positions have been hit hard.

Apparently no unemployed, laid off or talented Americans could fill these jobs nor would they appreciate a salary of $111,000 (sarcasm).

H1B renewals policy change.

Per changes to renewal of H1B visas, the administration has changed the policy.
H1B work visas will not have 1.5 years automatic extension, rather the visa holders need to go back to their country.

Use this situation in your favor. If FIS is not giving you increment or treating you badly, leave and find a new job.

H1B situation at WF

When an H-1B worker is hired, they bring their spouse on an H-4 EAD, followed by their children, and their friends. This process introduce a toxic work culture characterized by outsourcing, nepotism, favoritism, and corruption. It fosters micromanagement, backstabbing, and exploitative conditions akin to sweatshops, ultimately resulting in the replacement of American workers with their own compatriots.

Microsoft Faces Criticism for Layoffs Amid Visa Hires

Microsoft's Xbox division is under fire on social media following significant job cuts. The company plans to eliminate approximately 4,800 positions, with 1,600 of those impacting its gaming unit. This announcement comes shortly after Microsoft received approval to hire over 2,200 foreign workers via H-1B visas. Critics argue this indicates a preference for foreign labor over domestic employees, leading to accusations of prioritizing cost savings. Microsoft maintains that these decisions are business-driven and that H-1B employees were also affected by the layoffs.

H-1B in the news...

US government investigates H-1B, PERM visa fraud; Cognizant among firms under scrutiny.
The action has been taken under the Task Force to Eliminate Fraud led by Vice President J D Vance

When will Walmart start their foreign worker H1B hiring again?

Months ago we heard Walmart planned 3000+ H1B hires. Then, the Trump administration attached a $100,000 fee for bringing in a foreign H1B employee to replace a US based associate. After that, Walmart walked back their H1B plans.

Now, a federal judge has ruled the fee is illegal. Does that mean we’ll see Walmart dump a ton more US based associates and bring in foreign H1B workers to take those jobs? If I had to guess, I’d say, yes- they probably will.

University of Oregon Lays Off Staff While Seeking H-1B Employees

The University of Oregon aims to cut $65 million from its budget. It previously laid off over 100 employees and instituted a hiring freeze. President Karl Scholz announced the freeze to conserve resources. During this period, the university filed many H-1B visa applications. These applications were for various roles, including professors and research associates.

H1B Wage Disparities and Employer D**scrimi**ation

I was going through a site which publishes H1B data.
By looking at it, it seems plumbers and taxi drivers make more money than H1B workers brought by these Indian companies.
They also discriminate against people whom they bring from India versus those they hire here.
I find it laughable that H1B rocket engineers working at Schwab get paid less than taxi drivers and are further discriminated against by their own employer.

Hiring practices are wild.

With all the H1Bs and outsourced roles (totaling millions of jobs), no wonder the job market is “down”. Not to mention, I know several people in office who got their children internships and full time roles here. This cr-p is ridiculous and all companies who partake in undermining American opportunities should be fined heavily and required to hire locally. Dont start with “lack of talent”. Thats a lie. We have more than enough, these companies just don’t want to train or pay Americans when they could do it for a fraction with foreigners.

Centene Voluntary Separation Program – Important Context for Planning

I am in senior leadership. We are being told that there will be a 20% reduction in total headcount. This will happen in waves to minimize any single organization from feeling they are targeted. Employees who stay will be told to take on additional responsibilities. This will give a false sense of security, which will lead to other rounds of layoffs.

H-1B visa holders are not receiving the buyout offers. They will be let go in much greater numbers. Their visa is tied to the job, so once they are out they only have 60 days to find new sponsorship or leave the country. Many of them are being pushed out in these reductions.

The job market will be saturated and many companies do not hire in high numbers in Q4. For the sake of your families I highly recommend reducing your output at Centene and going full time into the job search process. There is no such thing as being safe in this. Even if you make it past the firings you’ll be given more work and no promotion. By the time the company starts to normalize, newer employees will be brought in at much higher salaries.

India Telecom going the way of Polaroid ?

Looks like T got rid of all their talent so they could end up like Polaroid . Same dead management style, same ending . Loaded up with cheap H1B labor because that seems to be the new "in" thing. Thats innovation right there . Push bright intelligent people to use AI so that they can start buying tokens from another company eventually. Thats a real future lol. Looking at the stock price , some would say T is about to slip beneath the waves.

Down 18.86% over the last year.

Even after all the layoffs the fleas are ki-ling this dog. They laid off all the talent , snapped up cheap H1B labor from India and its fake certifications. Now they are scrambling to raise prices. If you got laid off and your friends and family still have AT&T services, the butt of the joke is you. I switched to Mint the day after they pushed me out after 25 years. You want to stick it to them after they pull that, make them the bag holder with their high prices. I kick back now funneling info DC to expose their India tame and how they treat the older skilled labor. More and more people are waking up. You can get the same service elsewhere at over 50% less most of the time.
