Are Remote L5s a target?

I see a lot of talk about L6’s and up being the target of the layoffs, but I’m wondering if this is a chance to eliminate the remote team members, especially since the RTO mandates which is increasing in person workload for our in-office team members. Remote TMs also have no growth trajectory and most jobs posted are in-office required. Anyone have info?

Quitting without a notice

Has anyone quit their job without giving a two week notice? Don’t want to keep waiting around to get laid off, and at this point I don’t think that a two week notice will do anything. They don’t hire internal US employees so I don’t think they’ll ever hire me back for any position nor would I ever want to work here again.

Have you trained your co-worker's replacement yet?

If not you better get on it because you can bet they are busy right now training AI to replace you! It should go without saying that they will try to hide this from you by saying they are "swamped with work" after the last RIF, or that they "have decided not to work hard anymore", etc

Meanwhile, the more co-workers that you show management you can replace, the more valuable you look to Team Oracle

Should I stay or go

Mechanical Engineer for Chevron of 5 years here in the Permian Basin, I make $152K base plus an additional 10% increase off that for living in Midland,TX and my bonus every year is around 45K, looking at the posts here it seems Exxon is just as Toxic as Chevron, but how is the pay since I heard y'all don't get bonuses?

New Offer

I am deciding whether or not to proceed with the company, I've heard great things but have had great job security the last 5 years, even though pay was really low .. I'm looking to build a career, obviously with more pay but I see that the company goes through layoffs or working arrangements can be a hassle.. if I were to compare to another company that possibly starts with an H.. what would you advise?

Not sure what to do

I started my career late in life. Been here for 5+ years. I was offered another position with another company. Unfortunately this company has layoffs like many others in our sector. Not sure if I should accept it or just remain here. If you had the change to move on would you? Or would you remain here due to the amount of time you've put in? Also, pay and benefits are about the same.

Don't relocate for Dell

I learned the hard way that relocation doesn’t mean job security. I uprooted my life, sold my home, and then I got laid off a few months later. It’s cruel, honestly. Dell acted like moving was a sign of commitment, but apparently that commitment only goes one way.

Just joined and immediately have to deal with layoffs

I’m on my second company and third layoff since 2023, and at this point I’ve stopped pretending to be shocked. Every new job swears it’s different, then the same script plays out months later. This just goes to show that the grass is not all that greener on the other side.

Don’t think this will be over any time soon

We might get one big round that everyone’s waiting for, but it won’t be the end. We can expect smaller, targeted cuts to keep happening for months until things look the way they want them to. None of us will be safe for a long time. Sadly, this is just our reality now.

How is quiet quitting working out for you?

A bunch of people said a while ago they were no longer giving it their all and have started quiet quitting. I'm curios, how's that working out? How did your manager react, if at all? Have you been put on a PIP or is everything still functioning as usual? This is an honest question. I'd love to do the same thing, but I'm too scared of losing my job.

This is really taking a toll on my mental health

I spent the weekend looking over our finances, trying to figure out what we’d do if I’m affected. I’m the sole breadwinner in my family, and that’s never sounded as scary as it does now. My wife used to work as a teacher, and she could probably find a job if I hit the wall, especially with all the teacher shortages, but her pay wouldn’t be enough to support us and our two kids. I hate this feeling of not knowing what’s coming or how long we can hold on like this.

Don't think you're safe

Even if you’re one of the best, even if you know this place inside out, you’re not safe. These layoffs aren’t about performance. It’s just about saving money, and that means cutting the higher earners, even if they’re the ones keeping things running. I’m not trying to freak anyone out, I just don’t want people blindsided thinking hard work and experience still count. They don’t anymore.

Does anyone have any idea how many people might be impacted in the US?

I’ve only been hearing rumors, and they vary wildly. I’d really like to have at least some sense of what’s coming, because I’m genuinely worried about my job, like I imagine most of us are. The job market is terrible, and the bills don’t stop.

For those new to the process

The day starts just like any other. You are asked to remain close to your station in the event you are selected, and the selection process usually is undertaken in the morning. It’s a nerve wracking day and you can’t help but stare at the door or entrance you know supervisors or managers would enter if you’re about to get let go. But I’ve been through 5 or so of these staff reduction days by now. Perhaps my number is up this round, maybe it isn’t, it’s out of my hands. What I do know is if my supervisor does come through that entrance this time around, I’ll be professional and gracious for the package, and that I’ll also be wearing different colours by year end.

P&I leadership wiped out

Difficult day today for us old P&I staffers....seems like our entire MGT team has been wiped out. Tammy's reign of fire is upon us. I'm gonna believe her heart is in the right place but I'm in the minority. The mess that Deb Thorpe created (why was she feted so much when she left???) has finally come to bite us in the a-s. I don't feel good about where we're heading, gang.
