Nearly 300 people shown the door. This is definitely not all, considering that layoffs are supposed to be part of modernization plan announced a few months ago. I'm betting they'll "modernize" even more people out of their jobs before they consider it over. Sad days in Amana.

Is it just me
or does it seem that this year's layoff numbers are so far lower than the past few years?
HR & Finance: Over 300-400 people Each (Over 800)
I understand that we have to go through a RIF with Engineering and Products.
However, why do we have so many people in HR and Finance? Not to mention the recruitment department where we currently have no hiring to do, yet there are around 50 people in that team. We also have over 90 people in L&D and 100 in marketing, yet we have had to cut roles in Engineering.
Many tech companies cutting the size of their HR departments - even Uber has done so recently. META and Salesforce too.
This feels like a very targeted and poorly thought through process. Arguably, AI is capable of replacing far more roles in these functions than it is in Engineering and Products.
Apple, Wells Fargo, Gilead Plan June Workforce Reductions
Apple, Wells Fargo, and Gilead Sciences have scheduled layoffs. These job cuts are set for June 2026. Industry experts question AI as the primary reason for these reductions. Many believe AI is a convenient excuse for other financial pressures. Over-hiring during the pandemic and high interest rates are also key factors.

I can't figure out what logic they're using to decide who stays and who goes
The way leadership picks who gets cut here is totally random and makes zero sense. They've let go of some really talented people plus newer folks, and none of it seems to follow any pattern.
I've got an offer from a company that laid people off a few months ago
I really, really want to leave US Bank, but I'm wondering if it's safe to join a place that obviously is not shy about cuts. Has anyone here taken a job at a company that recently had layoffs? Would you do it again?
Does anyone know if AT&T plans to update severance terms soon?
Those changes tend to drop out of nowhere but they matter too much to only find out when cuts actually happen.
The only thing keeping me at BNY is hoping for a severance check
I would have walked away from this place ages ago if I wasn't waiting on a payout.
June layoffs
There are leadership meetings here in Jax this week. Yes, the June RIF looks real, but likely around and between 17 and 24 June. I have not heard anything about the teams that may be affected, though.
Any news on this? Have any of these dates been confirmed?
Getting laid off from Citi turned out to be the relief I didn't know I needed
I thought losing my job at Citi would hurt more, but it turned out to be freeing. The nonstop grind and scrambling just wore me down day after day until I could barely remember what normal felt like. I won't lie, it stung for maybe a week or two, but now I'm just relieved to wake up without that weight on my chest. Found a new job within two months, so there's that as well. All in all, a net positive for me.
No warning
People were let go with no warning. None. That's the scariest part of this whole thing to me. If there had been at least some indicator, something. But being a high performer and one of the most experienced people there, only to have the rug pulled out from under you like that... I feel so bad for them.
Do you keep in touch with your former coworkers?
Mainly those who were laid off? I'm just curious, because for me, as soon as they're gone, that's usually the last I hear from them, or they hear from me.

Employment up, yet companies keep cutting
Major U.S. employers issued the fewest layoff announcements in May. USA TODAY tracked 250 mass layoff notices affecting 32,000 workers. Spirit Airlines accounted for nearly 7,000 of these job cuts. The airline announced a shutdown and ceased all flight operations. This occurred despite U.S. employers adding 172,000 jobs in May.

What's happening with layoffs?
Is something coming in June or not?
Sunday. #FearDay
How many if you try to enjoy your Sunday...but in the back of your mind wonder if tomorrow's Monday brings that HR meeting and the Hallowed "Reading the prepared text" letting you know your position has been replaced by a cheap labor offshore or A.I.?
AI is taking my job
This week started my teams AI usage. It only does one part of our work so far and it needs some fixes. But I think this is the end lol. CRIU- when will we be let go? Any guesses?
Avoiding Competitors to keep severance?
I have been applying everywhere, but specifically avoiding places like Optum, UHG etc, where I’m pretty sure I would get hired. I want to keep saving my severance. Has anyone else taken this approach or am I remembering the severance package terms incorrectly?

What is the current RTO requirement?
Former employee here. Been away for a while and haven't kept up on the latest with Wells.
Out of sheer (and I mean sheer desperation) I'm considering applying for an open role.
What is the RTO requirement these days? When I got laid off it was 3 days in office, with rumors of going to 4 or 5 days, combined with reporting to show if anyone isn't spending 8 hours everyday in the office.
But where did things actually wind up?
CiscoLRLive
Q: How does it feel to be one of the ones who was LR harvested, whilst the Bread and Circuses of CiscoLive! commences?
A: It feels pretty sh£tty.
What a joke this all had been. To the old teammates who won't reply to texts, emails, or LinkedIn messaging...F-off, the lot of you.
get out of this company ASAP
About to have negative earnings for the next few years
The hypocrisy of return to office mandates
Forcing employees into an office while our entire executive team and most of our upper management is remote has to be the most hypocritical thing this company has ever done. At least under Mike, he and others were actually in the office.
If RTO were really about collaboration and face to face time, our execs would relocate, open more offices, and ALL employees would be mandated to go to an office or risk being made redundant, just like FAANG did post-COVID. So what's the real reason here?
As others have said, most likely hoping for natural attrition, especially since they did this while gas is at an all time high and increases/equity are at an all time low. If they don't get the reduced headcount they hoped for by the October deadline, you can bet there will be another big lay off in Q4.
Starting at Optum | Have an exit plan
After accepting a job at Optum, be sure to have a solid exit plan within 12 months. This is about how long it will take them to decide to replace you.
Pattern: Hire, layoff, replace, repeat.
Other pattern: Hire, layoff, AI, ??!?
Restructuring is constant. It does not matter if you are a high performer. They hire a consulting firm to evaluate demographics of employees when conducting layoffs to prevent discrimination lawsuits. May the odds be ever in your favor.
A Heartwarming Layoff Story
I just returned to work on 5/28 after being out on short term disability for a heart condition. Apparently I missed the mass video firing? I came back to see my supervisor and others in my team chat as "user unknown" Confused, I reached out to get some understanding of what I missed, I was ignored. So I clocked in and began my day. Member choice center btw. About 2 hours in, I received a meeting invite and was informed that my job was eliminated and was to clock out after the meeting. Which actually is fine because this job was soul su-king and I found something better. I do have a question about severance though. How long does it take to get severance and the email with info on that?

St. Landry Parish Schools faces a deep financial deficit. The school board learned the system is millions in debt. The district operates "check to check" and loses cash. It expects a nearly $4 million debt by fiscal year-end. School closures, consolidations, and layoffs are possible solutions.

Palo Alto Unified Predicts Layoffs After Parcel Tax Defeat
Palo Alto Unified School District forecasts financial hardship and potential layoffs. This follows the failure of Measure B, a parcel tax that would have generated $15 million annually. Educators dispute the district's conservative budget projections, citing historically higher year-end balances.
